hello yellow!

Yellow is everywhere this season, and I don't mind! These shoes are dreamy and under $100 @ aerosols.com. Perhaps they're even comfy too?

FF Speak

I love this new font, FF Speak. From fontshop.com:
FF Speak™ is a rounded sans serif from a new FontFont designer, Denmark’s Jan Maack. With FF Speak, Maack wanted to capture the tone and voice of youthful conversation. He created smooth but lively letterforms that would evoke different intonations depending on the weights and ligatures used.

The ligatures make me giddy! Buy it here.

AJ Fosik and Andy Kehoe

Saturday I went to an art opening in Chelsea at the Jonathan Levine Gallery for a handful of artists, and the ones that stood out to me the most were AJ Fosik and Andy Kehoe. AJ works a lot with wood, creating small paintings on it and making these insane wolf and bear sculptures out of small pieces of wood.

Here are a few of my favs from AJ:

And then Andy Kehoe does these acrylic paintings on cradleboard that are really powerful because of their incredible detail and eerie subject matter. Here are a few of my favs from him:

Babel

I just found out through Ashley G that one of my favorite artsists, Jim Houser, has a book, Babel. Amazon's website says this book came out almost 2 years ago, but I had no idea it existed, so its new to me.

stina persson

swissmiss just posted about the illustrator Stina Persson and my jaw dropped. I'm amazed at her use of negative space, especially using watercolors which are sometimes so unforgivable.
gorgeous!
and if you're lucky enough to live in New York *kate* you can see her work in person and perhaps even her on May 24th!

uniform studio crush

UNIFORM studio is a one woman clothing operation based in Minneapolis, my home town. Artist Martha McQuade make the most lovely clothing, bags and accessories for women and kids. Her color choices are fantastic and clothing shapes unique. My favorite aspect of Martha's work is that she is able to create this amazing texture with folds and stitches (See the pillow below) that i've never seen anywhere. She's been a great inspiration for me lately as I'm just learning to sew clothes of my own.
Check out her blog, and her etsy shop (updated frequently) to buy these lovelies! Also there is a nice interview with her here.

the most calming workspace i've ever seen:

i was lucky enough to get one of these:

Gregory Euclide

I'm in love with this installation piece by Gregory Euclide called "Not everything comes back to me, Somethings just go back"
I found it through We Heart Prints, where you can buy prints of details of the installation, but I don't think its nearly the same as I imagine the piece being i n person. I absolutely love the pieces of paper peeling off, something I've been wanting to do lately on blocks of wood, so I was excited to see someone else with that idea.

The other pieces on his site are equally as amazing.

Artkrush

Artkrush, a twice-monthly email newsletter about design and art, has an article about art blogs today that I thought you might find interesting. If you're not signed up for Artkrush, I reccomend it. It's hit and miss, but worth it since its just a non-wasteful email.

cheap chic in b+w

These simple black and white dresses caught my eye at forever21.com. Cute and mod, the best thing is that they're each under $32!

Printed Matter

Last weekend a friend took me to the most amazing place on earth, Printed Matter. I had never heard of it before or seen it before, yet he was convinced before I entered the store that I would probably be instantly in love. Um, yes.
Printed Matter is the world's largest non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of publications made by artists.
Imagine a medium-size book store FULL of just artists books, but largely hand-made or small edition books, incredibly beautiful and interestingly made. Made for the art and the craft, not for how well they're sell. I was in absolute heaven. I didn't want to leave! I signed up for a membership today that gets me 4 little books, invitations to artists events at the store, a cd and 10% off all purchases there.

It's not the same to browse online (www.printedmatter.org), but it gives you an idea.
