Marimekko + H&M

Marimekko is going to do a 50 piece line for women and children at H&M, debuting in the spring!!! I could not be more excited. I hope they include a few cute tote bags!

ps. I have no idea if the above photo is actually from the collection, it was hard to track down a visual.

The time for a new calendar is approaching, and while I want to put together a calendar guide, my work schedule is not exactly allowing for that right now, so for now I give you this one, which grabbed my eye.

Noa's Calendar, $35 at Kiosk.

Kiosk, by the way, is this awesome store I haven't had the pleasure of visiting yet. I'll let their website's description inform you:

"Kiosk is a store located in Soho, New York. We offer a range of products from all over the world, one country at a time, in addition to the “Ongoing” collection of objects from past countries. The featured country changes every four - six months. Everything in the store is sourced during our travels"

fantastic.

colorrific!

I'm currently attracted to the bright color combo on this doormat. I'm usually so conservative when it comes to color, but this doormat is too cheerful to pass up! on sale for $19.95 at anthropologie.

color code

I recently saw this idea floating around on the web (too lazy to find my inspiration photo now) and thought I'd give it a try in my own home. I've always been one to organize my books by subject, but I had no idea how nice it would look to have them organized by color! It makes me happy every time I walk into the room, I highly recommend doing this if you have some free time and are a nerd like me. Kate, do you recognize some of the titles?

We Feel Fine

This is the craziest website I have to share with you. It's nothing new but I finally had a chance to sit down and look through it to witness the insanity.
WeFeelFine.org scans the web for posts that include the words "I feel" or "I'm feeling" and then posts the sentence of what that person is feeling on the site. If there's a photo in the post that's linked too. It's all presented in a crazy applet with little bubbles floating around that you click and I could go on in depth on how crazy this thing is, but I won't bore you, just go look.

This also directly cooincides with my 1 month break from social networking sites to better my in person and on phone interaction skills. It's crazy how much we interact and confide electronically and hardly have human interaction with friends sometimes. This of course does not include this blog, however I'm so long past due to call a certain Andrea Jean to catch up.

designy gifts

Sick as it is, I've been waiting for the 2007 design*sponge gift guide for weeks now and it didn't let me down. Inspired by Grace's fantastic finds, I created my own designy gift guide. Some of it's stuff I own and love, some I've purchased as gifts already, and some I'm thinking of who I can give them to...what do you want?

my favorite part of the library, in blog form

It's going to be a crazy, crazy time at work for a few days so some night time posting if any will be in effect!

I'm obsessed with this blog I stumbled upon: BibliOdyssey, full of scans of amazing finds from old books and tears, at least thats what I've gathered.

A few that grabbed me:

Thanksgiving goodbye

Ok guys, so before I sign off for the next 4 days of holiday overindulgence bliss, here's some things to check out, sans photos because I'm much too swamped to deal with that poo right now!

Polyvore: awesome site where you can make your own stylist inspiration boards! I don't fancy myself talented to do such things, but the best thing about it is the links to each piece used and where to buy. It's like a shopping site showing you how to put it all together. I'm smitten.

Marc Cinq-Mars: Really, really amazing artist who updates his blog rather often. My favorite is Ribbon I. Swoon.

August Rush: The chick flick sob fest I've been waiting for, whos cast happens to include one of my most influential friends from my past in my life, the talented and lovely Bonnie McKee, who plays Keri Russell's bff. I'm so proud of her and can't wait to grab my chick flick partner in crime, Lauren, and some tissues and watch this next week.

and last but not least, a new flickr fave: larajade

Have a fantastic thanksgiving everyone, and cheers to anyone else sitting out on eating a poor little turkey:)

in my size please?

Again, something unattainable but full of inspiration. Beautiful site, children's clothing & toys, and photography at the japanese site CHIGO.

i want to touch this

Fantastic loop pillow from Anne Kyyro Quinn, London at Rose and Radish. Way too expensive at $390, but it's the inspiration that counts!

Not good for new york walking..but..

I have a soft spot for sexy shoes like this, even though I don't know when on earth I'd wear them, much to my boyfriend's dissapointment.

Here at Macy's, and in brown and black...but blue is obviously the best color.

more calendars

I love these desk calendars from snow & graham here and ilee here. The one from ilee is letterpressed and silkscreened but I prefer the simpler designs of the snow & graham one.

Brooklyn Industries

I love how Brooklyn Industries is becoming more and more fashion forward and less about graphic tees. Here are my current favorites.

And everything's under $200. Though the secret if you're thrifty is to wait a bit after things come out because it all goes on sale so quickly.

port2port press

Kate and I are big fans of port2port press. Her blog was one our inspirations for starting our own long distance blogging journey. While I must admit I've never purchased any of Maria's cards, they are all drool-worthy. She just opened up her holiday shop and there are lots of treasures. Unfortunately, her 2008 calendar is sold out! Check 'em out here.

Frosty photo set, i love that she used a simple paper towel as the backdrop to shoot this photo:

Girly moment

Ok I just have to share this amazingness with you ladies..and even guys if you've got a little metrosexual in you, which seems to be going the way of the buffalo but oh well.
I went to this beauty.com event the other day as it was right under my work and they were giving out loads of free samples. Loads. They gave you a little gift bag and then literally shoveled a scoop of samples into the bag. Then you're supposed to walk around and learn about the products and ooh and ahh at Tori Spelling hanging out with 3 inches of make up and a plastic smile on her face and be on your way. But instead I grabbed the loot and cut out of there. Most of the stuff I got was kind of lame, some of the girls at my work scored big with bottles of things, but all my samples seemed to be these tiny one-time-use tubes that were pointless.

BUT! The best thing ever that I got was this stuff called DuWop Hands2Hair Creme. It's basically hair creme that makes your hair soft and puts little fly-aways in their place and the best thing of all? Instead of washing the creme off your hands, you just rub it in because its also moisturizer for your hands! Seriously the most brillant idea ever. It works like a charm, as I have a serious fly-away problem, and it makes your hands and hair so soft.

Get it here at beauty.com.

Jason Rohlf

New artist find: Jason Rohlf

if you lived here

it would be awesome. I love this warm mid-century home featured on apartment therapy today. We recently got the same malm bed from IKEA and I'm thinking about adding sconces above like they have. I also love the way they have displayed the art in the dining room. I have lots of little prints – and it sounds like Kate does too– and this seems to be the perfect way to display them!

Meta love

Be still my heart. One of my favorite sans serif typefaces -Meta- now has a serif counterpart, Meta Serif.

From fontshop.com:
Obviously, a serif Meta would need to fit in with the existing Meta family. Through their combined experience, the designers created a typeface with metrics that are not mathematically identical to FF Meta, but optically the same

Read about it and see if in action in Font Shop's November Newsletter in all its glory. It looks beautiful combined with the sans serif Meta.

Through the Viewfinder

Its so hard to sift through Etsy sometimes, luckily they put some gems on their front page now and then. Alicia Bock's "Through the Viewfinder" series knocks my socks off. Not that my tiny prints collection needs more, but damn I want to buy one. The price is right, and a portion of the purchases benefit Half the Sky Foundation too.

paint love

I just discovered the artist Harry Stooshinoff on etsy. I love his casual and calculated style. Gobs of paint perfectly placed. Done in acrylic, these original paintings are around $45 each which is a STEAL! Visit his etsy shop to see more, there are so many treasures!

Roar! Bring back the brooch!

Having some strange publishing problems with blogger again for the millionth time this month, bare with me.

another one

I stumbled upon another french fashion blog which happens to be written by the first woman in this recent post by kate. Again, no need to understand it -- just wonderfully inspiring ensembles. Lots of grey + yellow, pleating details and dresses.

hi, bye

I love this so much, from silhouettemasterpiecetheatre.com

Music Design

When I was in highschool all I wanted to do was design cd packaging when I "grew up". It's a dying business that I'm torn on due to the movement of digital music being so much less wasteful, but you lose that (sometimes) beautiful tactile product. I admit that I've purchased physical cds even though I already owned the album digitally just because the design was so gorgeus.
Perhaps the recent surge in vinyl sales will save the jobs of those who design music packaging? Ever since I bought a record player a few years ago I haven't bought a single cd, instead feeding my need with beautifully designed record packaging.

Anyway, feast your eyes on this site, Hard Format, a collection of music design. Delicious.

And Graphic-ExchanGE's cd & music section. (The whole site is rather fantastic too)

Screw around at work for a good cause

FreeRice.com: An online vocabulary quiz where 10 grains of rice are donated through the United Nations for every word you get correct.

A completely addicting game that makes you feel good for being so smart and helping end world hunger.

ps. technical difficulties were insane yesterday with blogger, hopefully today it will work better!

Totes!

I adore totes. Sometimes when my purse is at the end of its life and I can't find a new purse yet I just switch to a plain old cotton tote for a while. Lately I've actually been taking my totes to the grocery store to use instead of plastic bags. This is not just because I'm a pinko commie hippie at heart, but because they're way the hell easier to lug home in new york since I don't have a car. Totes are so versatile and you can really spend nothing to way the hell to much on them. So this is for Andrea, who asked me about totes, and I bet she thought I was ignoring her. And seriously, I could have gone on forever listing totes I love but I had to stop. I had to.

Clockwise from top left
Flower Oval Tote, $200 - Tarifa Tote, $40 - the wurst gallery tote bag, $20 - Folkloric Deer Tote, $15 - Lonesome Black Bird, $17.50 - Uptown Tote, $150

Clockwise from top left
Set of 5 Envirosax Reusable Shopping Bags, $38.00 - shooper tote, $58 - Holdall, $163 - Slouchy Canvas Shopper, $20 - Auto Fabric Tote, $130 - Blue Stripe Curves and Angles Recycled Sail Tote, $75

Sick day today, so I made some biscuits. I will tell you that if you buy a box of bisquik there are about 10 million different super crazy easy things you can make with it that will make you feel very domestic and skilled and you can impress you significant other with your pretend skills that really just involve milk + mix.

The sun is finally coming out and being home in the neighborhood is so strange during the day. It involves manuevering a lot of old people and construction workers.

Ok, anyway. We seem to be experiencing some technical difficulties on blogger, so our posts are taking a bit longer to show up than they should. I will be back soon with something spectacular, I promise.

Louisiana State Fair

Rick and I recently traveled to Shreveport, Louisiana and had a blast at the state fair. It's funny to see it in black and white, because there were awesome amounts of color. Micah's great b&w hasselblad photos inspired me to bring my slr film camera and shoot a few rolls of b&w film. The state fair was an inspiring event to shoot. Here goes:

the reason you go to the fair.

Ace Jet 170

Oh man, I'm very excited because I used to read this blog all the time and then I switched jobs and forgot to send the link to myself! So for months I've been without it because I couldn't remember where I found it and what the hell it was called, but today Spray Glue posted about it and I couldn't be happier!

Ace Jet 170, found print & type

hooray! enjoy

For Like Ever

Design*Sponge posted about the For Like Ever tote being sold at Reform School which got me giddy since I effing love the poster that got everyone excited when it was published in a photo of someone's home in Domino magazine a year ago. But some searching lead me to realize village sells it for less ($25) and in shimmery gold letters, which I like better. I'm a sucker for tote bags my friends.
I will note that the version at Reform School is on recycled cotton and in a limited edition color though. Whatever floats your boat.

And btw, I bought 2 rings from The Carrot Box! I'm excited. I'll post pictures when they come. Crossing my fingers for a good fit..

and sorry for such late and less posting, I'm feeling very out of it today.

**link for village is fixed!

Lars and The Real Girl

I went and saw Lars and The Real Girl last night. Highly reccomended. I didn't realize until afterwards it was written by Six Feet Under writer Nancy Oliver, which would explain one of the many reasons it was so good. I know the plot soeems insane, but trust me, its so good.

Oversized clothes: not just for 1996

2 looks I loved from The Sartorialist this week. I love the slouchy-oversized look when its pulled of so sophisticatedly. I also love a girl who can make wide-leg pants look good, something I've been toying with the idea of but my boyfriend says, hell no. I don't think I'm meant to be a trendsetter anyway.

And by the way, I want a suitcase like that.

parisian street style

oooh the parisians know how to dress. no need to understand a word of this blog, the photos are so inspiring!

The Carrot Box

I've loved the rings at The Carrot Box for a long time, but never made the plunge to just order one finally because I'm so afraid of it not fitting! I should just do it, because they're so incredibly affordable and fantastic.

Here are my favorites. Shop for them here.

Goodman Banquette

If I didn't have a serious spilling problem, I'd be all about this sofa. I love how dramatic it is and I'm in love with tufted cushions.
