Despite the fact that the only dictionary I own is from the 50s and I use it for art pieces, and I get all my dictionary needs online, I think a Leather Bound Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary would be a fantastic gift. If someone gave me one I'd be giddy, because I'm a sucker for pretty books, especially if they're as useful as a dictionary. Perhaps a good gift for a college student. Wait, scratch that. All you want when you're in college is a check.
every year I have high hopes of making most of my gifts by hand but inevitably get swamped with other holiday tasks. this year, i'm especially happy with the way these cashmere bunnies (recycled from thrift store sweaters) turned out. they have eyes now and they may need scarves, but since it's dark i'll take a completed photo later. they are so lovable and soft, i'm going to make more after this holiday rush is over.
All I want for christmas is to see the new Paul Thomas Anderson movie, There Will Be Blood.
In other entertainment relatedness, I reccomend the Hulu, a site created by NBC and FOX where you can watch all their shows plus others and a few movies for free in larger & higher quality than youtube format. If you don't have a tv like myself, you can get away with watching videos at work, or just plain like watching tv on your computer, this site aint too shabby. I'm excited to be able to watch the Sci-FI original, Tin Man...maybe just because I love Zooey Deschanel more than words (hello my indie-style icon).
I used to have a boss who would talk about how great Philip Lim was often, but I never paid much attention as her pockets were 8 kagillion times deeper than mine and I never thought to investigate. But today I had to find photos of his clothing for work and smitten, smitten, smitten was I. Oh good lord, they're so perfect. These are my faves from his holiday collection.
In other news, it was a sad discovery today at work when I found that blogger is now blocked on our computers. This is bad news because I did most of my posts there on my lunch break. Sigh. My slow day posting is over, and I'll have to just stick to evenings when I'm actually home. Boo.
I've had the most insane time at work lately, but my boss tells me it hasn't gone unnoticed. I guess that makes it ok then. Sorry for the posting lackage!
Sienna Miller is one of my favorite actresses and style icons. She's collaborated with her sister, Savannah, to create an "individual, detailed, and considered" line of clothing. I enjoyed reading the inspirations for their line, as well as personal wardrobe essentials in this article.
I'm head over heels for the work of Noah Kalina after stumbling upon his flickr page. I love how simple and straightforward the photographs are, yet there's something about them that's incredibly special..maybe because you feel like you're standing right there? Maybe because I feel like I'm watching a movie? I'm not sure, but I especially love his latest series from his American west road trip.
See his portfolio here as well.
I bought this little 3 compartment sushi dish at pearl river for my jewelry but my necklaces still get in a horrible tangled mess. I like the idea of something to hang them on, but haven't seen anything that great so far. However, I totally love this Little Birch Jewelry Stand, which I like best in white because it would look so nice against my marigold walls. $26 at the loved and hated Urban Outfitters.
My obsession with the sea and all it holds has led to a new obsession: the octopus. Not only do they kick ass underwater, I think they're an amazing element in art and design. I've been dreaming up a sea-themed tattoo for a while now, and the octopus will definitely have to be included.
Though the NY Times said in an article about crafters that the octopus was going to be the next swallow/bird trend quite a while ago, I don't think the octopus has quite hit hard yet, as it was difficult to pull up quality octopus items. Here's my best go at it.
My search would extend if it werent for my insane work week and how absolutely tired I am! Sorry for my lack of posts, hope this sort of makes up for it? I have a calendar guide halfway done, so maybe this weekend that will finally come about. Oi vey, tis the season for stress!
This isn't something I'd normally post here, but I'm so blown away by it why not? My friend Ian sent me a link to this video of Jenny O. singing and it makes me want to stop what I'm doing and write music again. Absolutely beautiful. her myspace page.
One of my favorite jewelry designers, we dream in colour, has some new offerings I'm loving. Free shipping with the code HOLLY til Dec 9th. Check out the store here.
