Dargerism: Contemporary Artists and Henry Darger

I've never been to the Folk Art Museumm here before because I'm unapologetically just not that moved by Folk Art. But now I'm intrigued by the new show there Dargerism: Contemporary Artists and Henry Darger that showcases Henry Darger influenced artists. What a creepy, brilliant man he was*.
Though a part of me wonders if making art in the style of Henry Darger is like saying you write in the style of Chuck Palahniuk?
Either way, I'm going to check it out.

*I was totally joking about him being a pedophile but I can see how it was offensive. I love his work. I apologize.

i would just like to say that the link to those two kids is the best thing i have seen all day.
"It’s like, you have a metal song and all of a sudden the chorus will be melodic."
i love your blog
and i love Henry Darger's work.
I agree with the creepy description....
but i think referring to him as a pedophile
is unwarranted. he drew children
nude but they for the most part were in battle.
it seems most likely that he was molested as a child
and the drawings show him battling that.
but who knows for sure...it's all circumspect.
i love that they are photographs in the style of a painting. lovely work.
darger is creepy, but his work is brilliant.
adam and i are big darger admirers. we saw his work at the frye - narrow walkways where the walls were his huge paintings. there's an interesting documentary on him: "realms of the unreal". kinda helps explain things.
i don't think he really understood the difference between girls and boys.
it's fascinating to me that henry darger has become a solid figure in the art world--or at least, solid enough to wield influence and be mentioned alongside other artists of "influence."
i had no idea of him until the documentary--is that true for most people, or was i just behind?
anyhow, an interesting thing to think about--to make all that work, to be so private.
wonderful blogging, as usual!
i would definitely second, or recommend the realms of the unreal documentary about darger and his life. he lived a very secluded life and was a confused man. brilliant none the less! thanks for the mention of this article i am now very excited to finally see some of his work in real life right here in my city
