Totokaelo

Hold onto your hats, Seattle's Impulse boutique now has an online shop & community called Totokealo. This is extremely exciting news.
However, the strange thing is that you have to request a membership to join the site and they hand-pick people. They say:
Totokaelo is not elitist. We are about creating an original online shopping experience through hand-picking members that have something in common.

I think this walks a very thin line of not awesome and totally awesome. What do you think?

UPDATE I've just been informed by a fabulous reader that people are not handpicked, but everyone is accepted! I'm quite confused now. How very strange!

I joined and it's pretty great. However, the whole "handpicked" thing is misleading since they accept every single person who applies. They set up their system so that is does not discriminate, but I agree the disclaimer is quite strange!

wow, that is so strange! maybe once they get to a certain capacity they will start hand picking? thanks for letting me know, that is quite a difference.

I think they might've initially considered being more exclusive, but they've accepted almost everyone, as far as I know. I love the site - the user comments are the best part about it.

Lame that you have to join, but totally worth it. Plus they are having a sale right now.

i'm glad it's so well designed. i have to admit that even though i love impulse, i haven't joined yet. i was turned off by the joining/accepting part. i just want to go there and browse without signing in. i guess i'm lazy.

i'm the one editing applications and can vouch that not everyone is being letting in.

the reason it's membership only is bc of the commenting and we have a couple features in the works which will allow members to post images of themselves and start their own blog.

i want users to feel safe sharing images and size feedback and don't think it should be a public thing.

jill, owner, totokaelo.

i love this blog, btw.
