Red Legs

 Red Legs

I finally got around to watching A Woman Is A Woman last week, and while I wasn’t that into the movie, Anna Karina made the look of red tights click inside my head as perfection. I was previously on the fence about them, but I’m definitely going to give them a try now. The recent Built By Wendy show pulled it off as well, and so did Jenny. I think mixing them with grey and/or black is key here.

Remember how many of us agreed that the new Tropicana packaging was a major flop? Well, they listened to the billions of complaints and are bringing the old packaging back! Interesting, no? I would hate to be the designer who worked on that one…eep!

Saturday was full of adventure, and scoring some amazing boots at Buffalo Exchange, but yesterday I was in bed all day sick so this didn’t turn out as well as I wanted it to this time! Also my camera is having a sudden major disastrous problem that I’m hoping is a faulty memory card, otherwise I have to send it to Canon to fix. wah wah. It made shooting spontaneous things impossible.

Dead Air Space, originally uploaded by Elif Sanem Karakoc.

Have a great weekend, everyone! My friend Caleb’s birthday is tomorrow and I’m planning on baking him the most fattening, stomach-ache inducing cookies I can possibly make as he weighs 20 lbs without trying. I might as well not plan on eating until dinner tomorrow as I will be eating half the batter, as always.

I can’t watch BSG tonight (it’s my dream for a bar in my neighborhood to play it every Friday) so please ladies, no spoilers until it’s online!

And for all The Wire fantatics, I listened to an amazing interview from a few years ago with Ed Burns on NPR that Micah recommended. So. Effing. Good.

Over at Truant this weekend, as always!

Also, thank you for the warm welcome of the new “Bits of My Weekend” series I’m going to do here. I’ve always wanted to do something reoccuring here. I can’t wait to bring you more!

The Ribbon Jar

 The Ribbon Jar

This is totally random, but I have a little project up my sleeve (that I won’t talk about in case it fails miserably or I give up like many of my other ideas, ha) that requires the use of ribbon, and I came across this site called The Ribbon Jar that was so nice to find in the sea of hideous craft websites. Cute illustrations, easy to navigate, great ribbon, and what seems like good prices to me. Maybe I’m just too happy about coming across a website that wasn’t made with geocities website creator? Or maybe because I just bought more ribbon than I will ever need for like, $5? Or maybe it’s so so so Friday?

just a little pink

February 20th, 2009

From Guest Blogger: Andrea
So much has happened since my last post, which was ages ago now. Most notably, I only have five more weeks until my due date! It’s hard to believe we’re going to be meeting this tiny person so soon. We’ve all been busily preparing her nursery and gathering the necessary supplies to make our lives a little easier in the coming months. I’ve heard the nesting instinct is supposed to kick in only a few days before baby arrives, but I’ve had it for months! So, without further ado, I present the first photos of our baby girl’s nursery:

We decided on Dwell Studio’s Geometry pattern instead of Dragonfly. I really loved Dragonfly, but Geometry suited our home and design aesthetic better. Since we were on a budget, IKEA gets credit for most of the furnishings: crib, nightstand, chair and rug. To add a little retro charm, we gave our mid-century 3-drawer dresser a fresh coat of paint and are using it as the changing table. I was amazed at how perfectly the changing pad fit!

I searched and searched for a vintage danish rocking chair, but was unsuccessful (within our price range). We ended up with the Poang chair from IKEA, which gets points for being both modern and comfortable. I must confess, it’s not my favorite chair design because it will always scream IKEA to me. Hopefully the sheepskin throw and crib quilt give it some new life and character. Rick painted the built in drawers white and added new knobs from Anthropologie to match the green accent wall.

Above the crib are my two favorite things, prints by Sharon Montrose and a custom Mobile from Frazier and Wing! Heather Frazier was a delight to work with, and isn’t it amazing what she can do with cut paper? The bunny that currently occupies her crib is from a dear friend. It felt too strange having an empty crib, but I guess that won’t be for long!

DwellStudio pillows

 DwellStudio pillows

I just realized I forgot to express my huge love for the new DwellStudio pillows. Emily (their amazing designer extraordinaire) came over a few weeks ago and showed me the images, and my heart nearly stopped at the sight of that cobalt blue. I love the new step they’re taking with these.

flocked deer mounts

These little flocked deer mounts from johnny & stacie are so great. I’d love it if they made them in other animals as well, like a bear, or a jack rabbit. Unicorn? PIGEON? Just kidding.
