I hope you all have a great weekend! I am very excited to have my camera back, for the warm weather forecasted, daylight saving (I can’t wait to leave work when it’s still light out Monday!), finally going to The Queens Museum (they have a perfect miniature replica of NYC that I’ve been dying to see), reading more of The Watchmen, and some overdue gallery hopping.
I’ve been loving slouchy plain t-shirts for a while now, but only recently did I get down with white t-shirts – it took me a while. I’ve been seeing them popping up everywhere lately and I think they look great with a pair of black or grey jeans and they so easily dress up and dress down. Ones I love are a more pricey version, T by Alexander Wang (pictured on the rack below), or the cheaper options at Urban Outfitters (above & below) – I saw a few great ones in their store that aren’t online that have a little button holding up the rolled-up sleeves. I picked up an organic cotton one with a little pocket for $20 at H&M that’s surprisingly sturdy. Due to the high likelyhood of me spilling on myself, it’s a winner.
william j whelan takes beautiful photos. Makes me want a hasselblad even more.
My camera just came back from Canon all fixed up! I’m so excited I can barely concentrate. I’m just prowling flickr for inspiration to psych me up for photo taking this weekend.
Some of the interiors that Brian Park has photographed make my decorating heart race! They also make me realize I need some warmer colors in my apartment…well, in the dream apartment I hold inside my head.
Etsy gift guides are not just for the holidays, I love combing through them for fantastic finds any day. They have some great themed guides lately, like my recent favorite – Equestrian Prep.
Somehow I’ve gone through my life, until this moment, not knowing who jazz singer Madeleine Peyroux is. I was listening to This American Life when her cover of Bob Dylan’s “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” came on and my brain scrambled trying to figure out how on earth Billie Holiday could have covered that song. The resemblance in voices is uncanny. I went to her site and found her cover of Elliot Smith’s “Between The Bars” (video above, I have no idea if its the real music video, leaning towards no) and it’s incredible. Totally amazing. She kind of has that Norah Jones-like adult contemporary thing going on, but I’m not ashamed to admit that Norah’s first album was rather influential on my jazz singing, as much as my old jazz teacher (who hated her) would shudder to hear that:) Anyway, Madeiline’s voice is a thing of rare beauty, a perfect backdrop to the unbelievable amount of snow outside my window today.
