Forestbound’s new tote bag, made of a salvaged WWII era east german military duffel bag, is pretty much amazing.

I promise not to tempt you anymore with etsy shopping today. I’m just having one of these days and it’s super nice outside and it’s SO HARD to concentrate. There are literally birds singing on my windowsill at work and I shake my fist at them for letting me know how awesome it is outside that window. I’m going to bring up building a rooftop work station at the next staff meeting.

Tiffany emailed me to let me know that her Ebay shop, Carefully Worn, that she runs with her friend Jessica has been updated with some awesome new vintage pieces. Not only do I love this shop, but the photos are awesome (especially the banner photo, swoon!). Let the bidding begin, friends…hands off the boho dress (I wish it came with those shoes!)

I sat down at my desk for an hour last night trying to draw for this week’s drawing, and came up with nothing but poo. So I’m going to be a lazy bastard and just post an old drawing from my sketchbook, and a semi-old drawing that hangs on string at my desk. Cop out, I know! I blame the rain, people on the subway who lean their whole body against the poles, and pigeons.

Fun fact: the drawing of my legs above is actually accurate. My left leg below my knee and foot is inexplicably larger than my right, since 2005. Doctors cannot explain it. I also blame this on the same reasons above for not having a drawing today.

Billy brought me home a cupcake from BabyCakes tonight. He said that the cupcake was free of wheat, gluten, dairy, casein and eggs and was sweetened with agave. Now, I was vegan for a handful of years so I’m never one to turn my nose up at such things, but I will admit that my first thought was, “yeah this cupcake will be alright”.

Wrong. That cupcake was incredible and I think we both said “OH MY GOD” seventeen times while eating it, which is a lot considering we shared one single cupcake. Not only was it good for the unconventional ingredients used, I will argue that it was the best cupcake I have ever had. No, really. I’ve tried a lot too, you may be aware of the cupcake mania that has taken over New York in the last few years (and the rest of the country, for that matter) and this means someone always ropes you into eating “the best cupcake I have ever tasted” (see above sentences). I loved this one because it was very cakey, almost like a brownie, and DENSE – not fluffy – but incredibly moist. The frosting totally had me at “hello, you would never know I do not contain butter”.

Now that I’ve talked about this cupcake for two paragraphs, please go eat one for yourself if you haven’t (I know I’m late on the bandwagon) or, if you do not live in New York you can buy their cookbook, which comes out next month. I will so buy it.

I finally found the jacket I want. That was a serious search. My time could have been better spent, I do admit. But being picky is good, I suppose.

Reikem batwing parka

Not only does spring make me feel more creative, it makes me feel more modivated to cook. I made learning how to cook a priority last summer, and last night Billy said he could now say I was better than him at cooking (it was slow going). Making this task easier in my life are some awesome food blogs I love lately:

Design Crush’s “The Daily Eat” feature on her blog is a daily recipe found on the web that never dissapoints. I’m dreaming about this pineapple pie.

Everyone is talking about Everybody Likes Sandwiches, and I’m a devoted follower as well now. I appreciate the simplicity this blog brings to cooking because that’s what I’m all about (aka: lazy).

I met Kelly of eatmakeread at a blogger meet-up earlier this year and have been following her blog ever since. Besides sharing awesome recipes, she’s really funny, a highly appreciated blogging trait. Tonight I would like to drink 4 or more of these blood orange margaritas.

My friend Emily introduced me to the work of her good friend, Max Springer, who makes incredible paintings. I’m head over heels. I love the color, texture, and fine details.
