 Bits Of My Weekend

This weekend I tried two new things: Porchetta, and octopus takoyaki. Thumbs up to both of them. This was all part of eating myself silly as we decided to not eat big meals (with the exception of the amazing dinner I made tonight, pictured above) and taste our way around Manhattan. I highly recommend this.
Other highlights included the sign of spring in all the trees, Bigger Stronger Faster (SO good), reading all of your amazing comments* and discovering your blogs, and did I mention eating?

*I’m told I look slightly weird in that photo by those close to me and I realized it’s because I was struggling to keep Wendy in my arms before the automatic timer went off. Therefore, weird face. Ha!

 Fjallraven Swedish backpacks

I’m taking time from my regularly scheduled lazy weekend to tell you that these are the coolest effing bags ever! Fjallraven Swedish school backpacks over at creatures of comfort. They come in lots of awesome colors. I’ve been looking for a new bag to carry my nerdy looking camera case around in.

Allow yourselves to introduce yourselves

good morning, originally uploaded by shespeaksoceans.

Today was crazy crazy at work as we were getting out early and I was swamped, so I thought it would be the perfect day to make you guys do all the work here at For Me, For You. I’ve seen a lot of bloggers doing this lately, and while I hate being like those people who respond to every survey and “what type of fruit are you?” quiz on Facebook*, I had to try it too.

So, who are you guys? I know some of you, but I know there are secret lurkers who never comment and people just passing by, so just tell me who you are, your blog/website (if you have one), and it would be a bonus to know how you stumbled upon my blog as google analytics can only tell me so much! An maybe anything else you feel like sharing, if you feel so inclined.

So I’ll go first. I’m Kate, I’m 25, a graphic designer, and this is my blog. This is my occasionally awesome cat Wendy and I in the above photo. Not pictured is my awesome boyfriend William Steinman. My dream job is to be a singer in a band at night, and by day just run this blog from my bed while eating ben & jerrys. I’ve lived in New York for almost 4 years, and before that I grew up in the Seattle area. I love New York so much it hurts, like in the form of wanting to punch people who make it suck sometimes. I’m really shy, really sarcastic, and terrified of heights.

Ok, your turn.

*I love you, Emily Beebe

On that note, have a WONDERFUL weekend, friends.

Adventureland

April 9th, 2009

Tuesday I went and saw Adventureland, and it was fantastic. The trailer is so unbelievably misleading and terrible I won’t share it, so instead you should just listen to the Velvet Underground’s “Pale Blue Eyes”, a song used a few times in the movie. In fact, the soundtrack is awesome and all I’ve wanted to listen to is Lou Reed since seeing it. Anyway, thumbs up – go see it. I told Billy the best way to describe it is a mix of The Squid and The Whale and Knocked Up.

lotto David Horvitz/Xiu Xiu scratch lotto benefit

David Horvitz is up to something awesome again. This time you give him $2 via paypal, and while he’s on tour with Xiu Xiu he’ll stop and buy you a lotto ticket. If you win, all proceeds go to charity and you’ll get a note from him telling you so. If you don’t, he just sends you the non-winning ticket.

$2? How could you not do it? Go here to donate.

ps. I know P will especially love this post because it includes an animated gif, something not used nearly enough on the internet anymore.

YesStyle

 YesStyle

I posted about YesStyle many moons ago, but that was when I had like, 10 readers, so here I’m writing about it again because I just rediscovered it’s amazingness this week. A site pulling together asian fashion that’s overwhelming to say the least. The sizes are wonky (one size fits all) and some stuff is just plain hideous, but it’s 75% awesome. I can’t speak for the quality, but I’m tempted to find out.

After hours of searching I’m in love with this bag and this coat and so much more….

Another watercolor series I had been working on for a while that I took a break from, but I’m starting on again.

In unrelated news: NY wtf? SNOW?! I walked to work this morning and it was sunny and walking weather, and then 30 minutes later this? Not cool.
