Plum Cushion

May 31st, 2009

andrea here:

Hello, again and happy Sunday! I’m coming up for air from my blogging break to share a lovely new etsy store I’m currently loving: Plum Cushion. The owner is dear friend of mine and a fantastic interior designer. Her pillows are seriously swoon-worthy, I’ve seen these babies in person and they are truly gorgeous. She’s taught me that when carefully selected, you can layer pattern upon pattern. I love the combination of color and pattern in the sofa shot above.

I am particularly taken with these Kelly Wearstler prints:

and this great Chevron print by Schumacher:

enjoy!

New York in the ’40s

May 31st, 2009

I love this set of photos of New York in the 1940′s. Here are some around my neighborhood. I love seeing what my grandfather saw New York as when he was my age (he grew up in Connecticut). Sometimes when I’m taking photos I wonder what will be the most interesting to me and others many, many years down the road.

Happy Weekend!

May 29th, 2009

Have a wonderful weekend, friends! I’m very excited as my friend Lauren and I are taking a jewelry making class that starts tonight, at make workshop. This is in preperation of making sure I know exactly what the ef I’m doing before I start selling my jewelry! Everything so far is self-taught, and I need to work backwards a little and refine the basics.

Thank you all for an amazing week upon opening my shop. I am so excited for the things to come, and have so many new ideas buzzing around in my head. I’ve recently learned the key to my happiness that seems almost too simple: keeping busy doing something I love. I largely have the love of my life, Billy, to thank for this. A while back when I was very unhappy, he sat me down and told me to find something like this to keep me occupied – that moping around and being bored after work, whining and filling my time with general self-loathing was such a complete waste of my time. And like that, I set out to find something to fix that. So far, it’s going great.

Thanks Billy, and thank you, readers. See you Monday!

Crystal bullet necklaces

May 29th, 2009

I’ve been looking for a crystal pendant that I can actually afford for a while. The hunt is over. Bullet necklaces (made with real spent bullets) from leoravon.

Ok I’m done showing you things you should buy until Monday. I promise.

Ruche

May 29th, 2009

Here’s the deal guys. I’m going to need someone, preferably with excellent upper-arm strength…

to come physically restrain me…

from buying every single thing at Ruche. It’s so cheap I’d only be poor for like, 2 years. But I can’t let that happen.

I live in a 350 sq ft apartment with a boyfriend who apparently needs “space” for his own clothes.

You can thank Modish for you inability to decide on which amazingly cute dress to buy.

Mary Kate McDevitt

May 29th, 2009

Billy and I are obsessive list makers. Every week I gather the scrap paper from my desk and replenish our stack pinned to my bulletin board for list usage. I am very forgetful and lazyness is my guilty pleasure, so this is very necessary for me. So naturally when Mary Kate McDevitt emailed me her etsy shop I fell in love with her mini goals chalkboard. Straight and to the point, I need that “today I’m gonna get stuff done” reminder.

Leigh Crow

I love Australian photographer Leigh Crow‘s use of a slide projector in his photographs.

Recycled leather bags

May 28th, 2009

Two bag designers (both Canadian coincidentally) on my radar lately that use recycled leather. I should just rename this blog “bags and shoes for me, for you”.

Ashley Watson uses old leather jackets to make her wonderful bags, available online at candy store collective

Erin Templeton, found via nymag. Available online at Beklina.

art opening thursday night

May 27th, 2009

in the studio, originally uploaded by shespeaksoceans.

If any of you are in the area tomorrow, Billy has a piece in a group show in Soho, along with some other grad students from Queens College. Stop by the opening to see some art and drink free wine! I’ll be there, playing the best “stand there and try to look pretty” girlfriend role I can muster:) Just kidding. I’ll have my proud face on, no doubt.

I have no photos of his new piece, but just trust me that it’s amazing, and takes an incredible new direction. You can see some of his other work on his website here.
