the weekly what what – snap out of it
I’ve been in a creative slump lately. I realized I haven’t been drawing hardly at all, and thought maybe a sketchbook to fill would help. It’s always done the trick in the past. So I kind of broke the shopping ban to buy one, but I hardly thing a $4 sketchbook counts as breaking the shopping ban if it’s for a good cause!
So, I just need to snap out of it. It’s sunny today! I woke up so excited that it was sunny, I could barely go back to sleep to wait until my alarm went off. That never happens. I’m assuming the rain will just be back later, so I’ll just savor this for now….
Film scans: part 1
I thought I’d share some recent film scans with you, in parts.

Billy in his studio with his new work.

Micah and Shirley’s amazing cat, Lola. See, I didn’t lie about the bow tie.
Also at Micah and Shirley’s when we were in Seattle (their apartment had lots of photo ops).

stubborn nail houses
I’ve yet to see Up yet, but I’m eager to as I have not heard one bad thing about it. Inspired by the story of the main character’s little house being wanted by hungry developers due to it’s location – and his unwillingness to budge, deputy dog takes a look at 6 extraordinary “nail houses” like this. I remember there being a book about something like this when I was a kid that I loved. These are just plain amazing. See more and read about them here.

Ouch
The shopping ban has been totally smooth in it’s first week, but then I saw these and it stung:

Ridiculously cute, probably equally comfy Jeffrey Campbell sandals? His shoes are my weakness! On payday! But I closed the window, unsubscribed from Lori’s shoes emails temporarily, and took a deep breath.
Then I unsubscribed from a lot of shopping emails and it felt bittersweet. Then I put a chunk of my paycheck into my savings account and I felt great.
Bits Of My Weekend

A grey Saturday in Queens to visit Billy’s studio gave way to a gorgeous, gorgeous Sunday filled with “let’s walk somewhere in Manhattan that we’ve never been” which led us on the longest walk ever. I checked a million things off my to do list like a champ this weekend, and somehow managed to see a ton of movies. Three worth mentioning: The Hangover (1.5 thumbs up, lots of laughing til crying), Moon (amazing and also 1.5 thumbs up. Plus the director, Duncan Jones – aka David Bowie’s son – surprised the audience by saying hello!) and Downfall (super depressing but a fascinating look at Hitler’s last days).
Hope you all had a lovely weekend as well! I finished off a roll of film last night so I’m excited to go take it in this morning to get developed.
Have a great weekend!
Today at work we’re having a bonding session over Vegan Chinese food and a movie (I love my job) so I bid you all farewell for the day.
I cleaned up the sidebar over there and added my twitter feed (which is terribly interesting, I’m sure). I’d love to hear more useless blabber with some of you as well, so hit me up over there! :)
It has rained almost EVERY day of June! I am so sick of it, and crossing my fingers SO hard to at least have one day of sunshine this weekend! Cross with me, friends.
Ray Fenwick Postcards

Ray Fenwick is one of my very favorite illustrators. In fact, his paintings of friendship bracelets are what made me start making them again! So I was very excited to hear through designworklife that he’s releasing a pack of postcards through Chronicle Books.

Charley Harper birds
Isn’t this Charley Harper illustration fantastic? (apparently from a ’60s biology book!) I wish it was a poster.
