Have a great weekend!
I have no grand plans this weekend, so I’ll keep this short and say have a great weekend and I’ll see you all Monday!

The shopping ban is over. One month and 3 weeks long, I cheated a couple times on a couple very small things that were bargains, but that is the point of the ban – to not overspend on things I don’t need. To celebrate the shopping ban I went shopping. I know, my logic is amazing.
First I bought an awesome vintage purse for $10 from Vintage Shouting. That’s practically free, and I have a purse collection (yes, collection, not addiction) that needed this particular style. Needed it.

Also purchased was this incredible vintage mixer from JaditeKate (whom I stalk constantly and was glad to finally buy something from her). A great price, and I needed a mixer badly. I do a ton of baking lately and my hand mixer is a sad, sad thing. I used to have an amazing Kitchen Aid mixer my doesn’t go within 10 feet of an oven anymore mother passed onto me, but due to reasons I would rather not go into because I start pulling my hair out, I no longer have it. This is no Kitchen Aid, but I am no Martha Stewart either. Oh also did you notice how cute this mixer is? Very important.
But those were celebratory purchases (and self control hitting it’s limit) and I’m back to being very, very good. Above all, the shopping ban has taught me to think WAY harder before I buy things, and I hope it lasts. Thanks to everyone who joined in on the ban too and for being so supportive!

schubLaden takes old drawers and makes them into new furniture. The results are drool-worthy and make me wish I was more crafty as there’s no way in this lifetime I could afford a piece.

I have furniture and apartments on the mind today. We move to Brooklyn (Greenpoint, if all goes as planned) in two months to a (hopefully) larger apartment, so that’s all my brain is filled with right now: dreams of what to do with a bigger (you know, normal sized) place.

Um, big giant SWOON over The New York Times “The New Antiquarians” article and slide show, featuring some amazing apartments in New York (including Porter Hovey’s – vote for her to be on Mad Men!)

thank you TeenAngster for bringing this to my attention!

Alyson has an awesome little tutorial over at Oh So Beautiful Paper on how to make a DIY scratch pad. I am so making one the next time I have some free time! So easy and cute.
I love love love Desire To Inspire’s post on necklace displaying/storage. I’ve been trying to find something to hold the necklaces I make before they’re shipped out, as I just use thumb tacks in my wall right now, and after looking at a million ugly tie racks and coat hooks without enough hooks, I was feeling discouraged. But this display above – made of salvaged antique parts – made a light go off in my head that I should just make my own! It’s a bit hard to find salvaged wood in NYC just laying around, but I’ll see what I can dig up!
I’ll keep you updated on what I come up with.
It’s been a while since I posted a weekly what what, and I have to admit that when I made this card for Esme, it was the first time I touched a pen for things other than signing my name in weeks. I’d love to do more little side projects like this to keep me drawing, as it’s so much fun. If you have a need for any custom cards, posters, blog headers, etc and want to hire me, hit me up at katemiss at gmail.com!
Lately the amount of dudes reading my blog has grown and surprised me, as I assumed I talked about babies and shoes enough to turn them all off. Reader Eric recently asked me about vintage for guys and I realized how little I know about guy’s vintage on Etsy as I rarely come across it. I’ve never dated anyone who was into vintage, even though I do love that look on guys, so I’m a little clueless. So I rolled up my sleeves and dove into the scary world of Hawaiian-print shirts and more plaid button-downs than you can shake a fist at, and tried to find some good vintage finds for guys on Etsy. It was rough, but I gave it my best shot! I’d love to hear about other shops if you know of them.

Big Brother Vintage is ALL men’s vintage! I love the shop name.

Hog Eat Hog Is about 50/50 on men and women’s vintage.

Chigal is full of vintage eyeglasses and sunglasses, for men and women.

DejaBlonde has a nice selection of men’s vintage.

La Burrita Veija has a very small selection of exactly what I’d picture men’s vintage clothing in Barcelona looking like.

Mother Midnight uses incredibly creepy masks on their models, a growing etsy trend methinks, but has awesome men’s vintage.

Um guys, have you Made Men’d yourself? Remember those awesome Mad Men illustrations Dyna Moe made that everyone was nuts for last year? Well, AMC has this sweet site with her illustrations where you can Mad Men yourself, which is clearly the most important thing to me at 10am. Clearly. Even cooler than turning yourself into a Simpsons character.
