This weekend I’m going to be knee-deep in putting the last touches on the necklaces, but I’m hoping to get an afternoon in at the beach with friends. I have been depriving myself of beach time, me thinks.

Also, if you’re in Williamsburg on Sunday, the lovely Jessica of Shiny Squirrel will sharing a booth with Jackie Bos at the relatively new Williamsburg Flea Market and selling some of my prints, along with some other great artists!

Annnd, stay tuned next week for my follow up on the movies I love for the visuals post – some of you have me kicking myself for not including certain movies that I would love to share – namely The Fall, which is one of my favorite movies on the PLANET and I cannot believe I forgot to include it. It would be my #1 on that list, I assure you. Seriously, go netflix that movie right this instant.

Heads Up: Shop Update Monday Afternoon!

Heads Up: Shop Update Monday Afternoon!

I just wanted give you lovely people a heads up that Monday afternoon I will be updating the shop with 20 new necklaces! There are two new styles, and some repeats from last time. I wanted to have a lovely photo here for a sneak peek, but totally forgot as I literally made necklaces until I passed out last night, so I don’t have a lovely photo. I have a pretty crappy iPhone photo. But maybe that makes it more of a peek so I don’t give away too much. This was taken Wednesday night when I was halfway done.

Heads Up: Shop Update Monday Afternoon!

Tons of new colors, a new super chunky weave, and due to popular demand (I’ve always wanted to say that) the brass drops necklace will be sold! Prices for the necklaces will be about the same, $25-30 each.

I can’t say for certain what time I’ll be putting everything up because I’ll have to do it on my lunch break, but I’m shooting for around 2pm est. I’ll put an announcement up here, and an email will be sent out to the mailing list subscribers.

In addition, I’m also releasing an 8×10 print of the Magical Thinking piece, with re-designed text (because I had to redraw it to be larger).

So yay Monday! And thank you to everyone for your support, purchases, and blog posts. I love hearing from a happy customer.

I love these pieces made of vintage fabrics from Ella Van Dusen. Drooling on my desk over them, in fact. Also I have a girl crush on the model.

10 movies I love for the visuals

July 16th, 2009

Ever since I saw Atonement, I’ve been thinking about how the way a movie is visually stimulating is nearly more important than the story for me (sometimes). I read something awesome somewhere that when they filmed Atonement, at certain points they stretched a stocking over the camera to create those hazy, soft focus shots.

So I reached into my mind this week to think of 10 movies that I absolutely love the visuals in…I’m not talking special effects, but movies you could pause at moments and frame they’re so great. Most of these are my very favorite movies, but a few aren’t even in my top favorites, I just love the way they look. Some of these were really hard to find a shot from the movie that I remember being my favorite, but they’ll just have to do.

Let’s start with Atonement:
10 movies I love for the visuals
10 movies I love for the visuals

Punch-Drunk Love:
10 movies I love for the visuals
10 movies I love for the visuals
(Paul Thomas Anderson’s most underrated movie is incredible. Please see it if you haven’t. Jon Brion’s score is amazing as well.)

The Virgin Suicides:
10 movies I love for the visuals
10 movies I love for the visuals

The Darjeeling Limited:
10 movies I love for the visuals
10 movies I love for the visuals
(My least favorite story from Wed Anderson, but my favorite visuals of his.)

A Very Long Engagement: (Un long dimanche de fiançailles)
10 movies I love for the visuals
10 movies I love for the visuals
(Most of Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s movies kind of tie here)

A Woman Is a Woman: (Une femme est une femme)
10 movies I love for the visuals
10 movies I love for the visuals
(I don’t even like this movie, but watching it was a trip, and for that it gets to be in this post.)

Everything Is Illuminated:
10 movies I love for the visuals
10 movies I love for the visuals

Children Of Men:
10 movies I love for the visuals
10 movies I love for the visuals
(The top photo is my favorite scene in a movie, ever)

The Science of Sleep:
10 movies I love for the visuals
10 movies I love for the visuals
(It was hard to choose between this and Eternal Sunsine)

The Fountain:
10 movies I love for the visuals
10 movies I love for the visuals

I’m sure I’m missing a ton of movies, but I had to stop at 10 for many reasons. But I’m curious, what are your favorite movies for the visuals? I’d love to do a post of your ideas as I wonder which ones I hadn’t even thought of that I’ll kick myself for forgetting about.

Giveaway Winner!

 Giveaway Winner!

We have a winner! Congrats to Megan, who I picked via a random number generator, for winning the Elizabeth & James t-shirt! I’m quite jealous. She said she’d wear it to work or lunch/dinner tucked into a mid-to-high waisted skirt, with cute bright colored flats, and so fun jewelry.

Thanks to everyone who entered, reading your responses was so much fun. Reader Lily even made a collage of how she’d wear it!

500 Days of Summer

July 15th, 2009

I’m half expecting it to not be that fantastic, but I’m pretty excited for 500 Days of Summer. It opens Friday in New York and I’m so there. It just seems like a good summer movie and I’m down with rekindling that love I had for Joseph Gordon Levitt in junior high.

a post about cute babies and certainly not about breaking the shopping ban

Some of you have inquired as to how little Ms. Audrey Imogene is doing (previous and now occasional co-pilot blogger Andrea’s babe). This is an excellent question because I like flash people adorable photos on my iPhone whenever possible (actually I’m lying, this hasn’t happened yet since I got the phone, but I do show them on the nearest computer.) So I decided to share with you this jaw-dropping, fall of your chair while trying to pinch her cheeks through your screen photo with you. She is a perfect little blond angel and every time Andrea posts a new photo of her, a little piece of my heart breaks that I can’t be in Seattle for at least 5 more months.

So now that I have you really, really distracted….

I broke the shopping ban.

Oh wait did I show you this picture?! Oh man, it is SO cute too, no?

Technically the original plan was to be on the shopping ban for one month, and in that month and one week I bought nothing except for a new phone, which you all decided for me was a necessity and not breaking the ban! But I still felt bad and decided to extend it to the end of July.

a baby AND a boston terrier? I know, you didn’t think I could hit you with a double whammy like that, but I just did.

But I was weak, and while strolling past Uniqlo (after taking the subway directly to it during my lunch break) I saw that they were having CRAZY sale! I got 2 dresses and a shirt for only $40! That is such a crazy deal it’s almost like not breaking the ban, right?

Don’t hate me. Shopping ban is back on, with just a little blip in the road. But hey, I did last a month and one week! That’s amazing for me!

 LSTN

You know what’s surprisingly fantastic? Urban Outfitters releases a free mix download every few months called LSTN, with 20+ mp3s of new songs from various bands. I have all of them and they’re great. A free, easy way to find new bands. My favorite is #3, which is great to walk around to.
