Guest Blogging

Just a reminder that I’m guest blogging over at Unruly Things this week! I’m in great company with Roberta of Camp Comfort and Julie of Vain & Vapid.

Crazy in love with these Deka Ray rings, especially the double small wings. It’s my birthday October 10th. Just sayin’…

I love shopping more than is probably healthy, but I loathe shopping for jeans because they never, ever fit me right. When Andrea of Fly Girl talked about testing out the new Gap 1969 styles and mentioned the Real Straight fit, I excitedly commented on how amazing they sounded. And because she is so awesome, she sent me a card for a free pair.
Things that are good: 1. The rise. Not too low, not too high. 2. The back is a little bit higher to get rid of that horrid gap (my number one problem with jeans) 3. They have just a bit of stretch in them – enough to make them comfy, but not too much to make them flimsy.
The downsides: 1. The Gap stopped making my size in ankle length. I had to get mine hemmed and I tried a new tailor who hemmed them a tiny bit too short, which is a serious bummer, but the cut is straight enough that it’s kind of cute that they’re a little short. But Gap, PLEASE make more ankle lengths! I know tons of people who agree with me. Even if you just sold them online I’d be fine with that. 2. The washes. I like the dark wash I got, but the other color wasn’t cute and I wish they’d sell a really light wash. Maybe this will come later because these babies are so popular, they’re sold out at many locations.
I hear the Always Skinny is also great, and I might have to get some for boot season coming up. Anyway, thank you Andrea for the free jeans! It’s colder this week so I’ve been rocking them almost too much.

This weekend was the first time in a long while that I had to edit some of my weekend photos out of here, and I’m still way beyond my normal 10-13 images. Which is good. It was all inspired by going on a photo hunt with my Ikoflex Saturday. I walked Billy to work in Tribeca, and then just wandered all the way home, weaving around the city taking pictures. I don’t normally enjoy taking pictures while I’m alone, but I really wanted to finish the roll so I could walk straight to the film shop and drop it off to get developed (I’m scanning them as soon as I get to work!) Besides picture taking, there was so much painting, cleaning and boxing up. We also fit in a fun trip to PS1, my favorite place on earth. It was one of my favorite weekends in a while.
This weekend I will roll my sleeves up and paint my damn grey wall. There is one, just one little wall, painted grey in my apartment and it is going to take more coats of paint than I care to think about. Besides that? I plan to be as lazy as possible, and whine about tropical storm Danny wrecking my weekend.
But! Fun things ahead as next week I will be guest blogging over at Unruly Things! I’ll still be here, too, but Alyson’s blog is classier than mine so there will be a difference. Puppies here only. Maybe cats will be allowed at hers. Because, what else do you expect from me?

Alyson’s amazingly sweet shop, Postal Press, is now live! I love love love going back to basics – handwriting notes and sending things through snail mail. In fact, I think I need a pen pal. Hurry over before things sell out!
Today is stressful, rainy – and I can’t believe this – but, cold! I’m fine with it not being sweaty, but I wasn’t mentally prepared yet and I would have preferred the cool weather came without rain. But two things are cheering me up this crummy Friday:
1. The Mondo Boys (a NY/LA mixtape/sound collage collaborative) “Weird Summer” mix that Genevieve shared today. Instant beach party at my desk.

2. Puppies dressed as cats. Need I say more? Oh Conan, marry me?
Now if only someone could do something about this awful sandwich I bought for lunch…

With one month to go til move time, the task of getting the apartment back to it’s empty, boring, white, original self has started. Yesterday Billy and a friend of ours took everything out of the bedroom, tore down our precious wood wall, and painted over my beloved marigold. It took hours and hours even though the bedroom barely fits just a full size bed. Last night we were laying around in our bed, parked in the living room (we swapped the rooms so the bedroom could be the packing headquarters…here’s what it used to look like so you know what I mean) and we surveyed the endless amount of work left to do. Then Billy asked me, “Have you started thinking about the new apartment…you know, colors?” And even though I knew it was strange question for him to ask, I started listing off possible ideas (like, you know, dark grey?) before he interupted me, with jazz hands, and said, “because I was thinking WHITE. ALL WHITE! DOESN’T THAT SOUND LIKE A GREAT IDEA?!” I frowned, my dark grey walls dream crushed. But then today I had to go buy more supplies at Home Depot, and while lugging back gallons of paint down 23rd st, screaming at tourists to move in rows of two or less instead of six in the privacy of my head, I thought, “white. white. white. white….” Yeah, maybe white isn’t such a bad idea.

I love Justin Gabbard’s secret series – portraits based on anonymous on-line confessionals.

My favorite part of Lisa Congdon’s amazing (as you’d expect) house tour over at Apartment Therapy is this wall grouping of old photos. I always pick up old photos at flea markets and then put them back, telling myself I have nothing to do with them!
