just me & my dad

September 30th, 2009

A lot of you may be aware of how awesome Claire – aka Clumsy Bird on flickr and my favourite dress on etsy – is through and through, so if you haven’t seen her new photo blog that she shares with her dad, you must. just me & my dad is so lovely, and I wish I could talk my dad into doing something like this.

Yohji Yamamoto Pullover

September 30th, 2009

Oh, yes. This Yohji Yamamoto French Sleeve Drape Pullover at Totokaelo is making my heart flutter. But let’s not talk about the price, ok? Let’s just say it’s clearly the month for amazing jackets that cost more than my share of the rent.

I really need to learn how to sew.

Wish list

September 29th, 2009

The 10th is my 26th birthday, therefore I put together a little wish list. For, you know, certain boys. Though Billy pointed out the other day how awesome he is at getting me things I didn’t ask for that are awesome, so this might just be for fun.

yokoo scarf (it’s high time I get one of these babies) – deka ray ringhard graft iphone casefishs eddy floral juice glasses (actually I want a set of vintage dishes from fishs eddy, but they don’t have them online, but aren’t these vintage inspired glasses cute?)

Bits Of My Weekend

September 29th, 2009

Wendy. Uhaul. Wendy! Uhaul! Moving! Moving! Moving! Wendy!

That’s how I feel about this Bits Of My Weekend. My camera was the last thing on my mind this weekend, but next weekend, I promise glorious Bits Of My New Totally Awesome Did I Mention It Is Oh So Awesome Apartment. Moving went pretty smoothly, besides Uhaul hell (1.5 hour wait in line, anyone?) and losing out on an extra person with muscles to help us, so I had to fill in for muscles, and if you’ve met me in person you can join in on a hearty laugh with me, right about…now.

But we’re here, and besides some seriously sore muscles, I’m gloriously happy with the new place. I unpacked half the place already because I’m completely insane and apparently just want to drag myself to work, half alive! I think I eye a box somewhere that is screaming for me to open it… It’s like Christmas!

hello, weekend

September 25th, 2009

◊ ◊ ◊, originally uploaded by coolhandluke.

This weekend is our very last in the Lower East Side. Despite all the last minute packing and painting and all that jazz, I’m making it mandatory that we do a tour of our favorite things in the neighborhood before we leave, for fear that we’ll never do them all again once we’re a pretty decent train ride away. (That’s always the case, isn’t it? I haven’t been back to Park Slope since I moved two years ago!) Gallery hopping, dog park gawking, crepe eating, and general strolling in the sunshine are in order. It’s supposed to be chilly and cold tomorrow, so someone clearly knew I needed my favorite weather for this.

Also, I’m taking a break Monday because the moving gods have answered my prayers and by some stroke of luck our office is going to be closed last minute for Yom Kippur, so instead of moving Monday night, we’re moving during the day! The. Last. Move. Part 3 of 3, done and done. So dang excited.

Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll be back Tuesday!

Esther K,

September 25th, 2009

Esther K. just released her latest collection of jewelry this very day, the Andromeda collection, and I think these gorgeous necklaces would make you instantly look fabulous and class up any outfit you were wearing. I also love that the inspiration for them is constellations and the night sky, as I can’t get enough of things in that vein right now.

Brief Interviews With Hideous Men

September 25th, 2009

I love John Krasinski in front of the camera, but what’s he like behind it? His directorial and screenwriting debut, Brief Interviews With Hideous Men, based on the book by David Foster Wallace, is just now out (I believe only in New York right now, but I could be wrong) and the trailer looks good. It has an excellent cast, like Will Arnett, Will Forte, Lou Taylor Pucci (hello, Thumbsucker is one of my favorite movies EVER) and John himself. I haven’t been to a movie in ages, there are way too many on my list to see!

ReFRAME

September 24th, 2009

I am definitely buying a ReFRAME or two for the new place once we’re settled. They’re affordable glassless poster and print hangers that are a great alternative to ridiculously expensive frames, and look awesome. I remember falling in love with them on A Cup of Jo a while ago, so thank you Tom for sending them my way to remind me I need some now! A bonus is that they’re 10% off right now.

Busy Music

September 24th, 2009

It’s such a busy (but exciting) week for me, having music on constantly is pretty important right now to keep my sane.

Some songs on repeat right now:

Telepathe – So Fine
Reminds me of Au Revoir Simone

Polly Scattergold – Please Don’t Touch (Golden Filter Remix)
I don’t normally get into remixes, but this is so dang good. So Bjork-like

The Velvet Underground – Run Run Run
Billy and I start singing this song after a day of busyness all the time lately.

Steely Dan – Deacon Blues
I’m not ashamed to admit that I listen to Steely Dan on repeat while I’m painting alone. Not that Billy doesn’t love listening to them. Also, this homemade video is the classiest thing I’ve seen all week. Maybe all month.

And lastly, reader Maria sent me this cool video for a Elin Ruth Sigvardsson song, and while I’m not totally into the song, the video is super rad.

Miranda July as extras

September 24th, 2009

Oh Miranda July, could I love you anymore than already I do? It’s probably not possible.

Miranda July poses as extras from classic movies for VICE.
