Such Great Heights

Now that I don’t have a long walk to the subway, I’ve decided to venture into the world of over 2″ heels. I feel like boots with high heels a little easier to handle than pumps, and make me feel less awkward. Some favorites…

jewelry announcement: dates + new shop

November 11th, 2009

3941094930 65188d3021 jewelry announcement: dates + new shop

Since my last shop update I have been tirelessly working on making roughly 100 necklaces for a huge shop update for the holidays. I’ve lost sleep, friends, and a normal life, but I’m super excited to announce that in the coming weeks there will be four shop updates! :) There will be varying times and days of the week to hopefully accommodate many of your very different schedules. The dates will be as follows:

(UPDATED!)

Wednesday, November 18th – 8pm EST
Friday, November 20th – 9am EST
(then there will be a little Thanksgiving break as I’m going out of town…)
Sunday, November 29th – 4pm EST
Wednesday, December 2nd 8pm EST

Each update will have roughly 25 necklaces, and which particular necklaces will be released in that update will be available for you to view the day before. I’m sorry I can’t tell you upfront because that is too much work for my brain, but every update will a bit of each category and colors – brass drops, silver drops, the classic rollo chain necklace, the box chain necklace, and the snake chain necklace. This is sadly the last time I will be selling the box chain and snake chain necklaces as my vintage stock is all out! I’m now on the hunt for a new style.

If you are on the email list, an email will be sent out the day before each shop update with a reminder and a link to the shop where you will be able to view what will be sold the next day.

Another huge announcement is that I’m moving my shop from etsy over to big cartel. This was a seriously tough decision, but there were a few features that I really needed that etsy doesn’t have – mainly, now when you put a necklace in your cart, you will have 15 minutes to check out! No more racing as fast as you can only to have someone snatch your necklace out of your cart. I can’t handle those angry emails anymore, or the fact that it’s all about who can type the fastest! Another thing I love is that I can put all of my items in my shop and then choose when I want them to go live, or to have a “coming soon” feature so that you can see what will be sold the day before! I still think that Etsy is one of the greatest things on earth, and is perfect for stores that benefit from being in that community and being promoted through that community, but the technical issues outweigh that right now for me – what is need is certain functionality that works better for me (and you!) If I do go back to selling my prints again, I’ll be selling them through my etsy shop, because it’s also good for those shops to be separate. Etsy, I still love you to death, the Etsy forums have helped me IMMENSELY in starting a business, and I’ve met some awesome people there.

It’s not totally done being designed, but the shop will be located here at www.shop.forme-foryou.com. I just wanted to give you the link to bookmark now if you’re not into the email list thing or are a super planner and want to bookmark it now.

I’m very excited (and a wee bit nervous) for this busy month!

Ikoflex Shots: second roll

I got my second roll of Ikoflex shots back yesterday, and I’m extremely happy with how they came out, I think I’m getting the hang of the camera a lot more since my first roll. Lane recommended I try a roll of Fuji Pro film, and I love the results so much more than the Kodak film I used last time. I had a photo shop develop and scan these, but I can’t wait to get my own film scanner someday because they did a pretty good job, but the cropping is a little weird and they auto corrected a lot of colors I had to re-adjust. Those Arizona sunsets were apparently not believable to them… :)

A Weakness

I think it’s safe to say that there are few things in life that make me happier than good looking office supplies. Things that make me want to sit down at my desk. It’s my weakness, right up there with shoes and bags. I cannot be trusted to practice restraint in a Japanese stationery store.

My very longest standing internet friend (ah, the days of livejournal), Lane Collins is now offering editioned prints of her amazing Alchemy series in her shop. Along with her standard editions she’s offering a special awesome price of $30 each for these three prints, or $75 for a set of all three. Dang. I suggest you snatch these gorgeous prints up soon!

Besides so very many errands that had to be run all weekend, I made enough necklaces that has to qualify me for some kind of world record of awesomeness. What helped is that Billy had this sudden need to go to his studio and work, so I went with him and set a table up to work as well, and damn did I get a lot done with that kind of motivation. Sunday morning Billy turned to me and said, “What do you think about maybe rearranging the living room?” because he knows the key to my heart: rearranging furniture. We set to it, and it looks 800 times better! I think that my one of my special powers is rearranging furniture to make a room look better. I should be on Oprah. Or maybe Tyra, I’m probably more Tyra material, huh? We also set to making some shelving, but during all the drilling and hammering my neighbor got mad! Apparently someone likes quiet time on a Sunday afternoon. Hrmphh. Doesn’t he know how badly we need some shelves? Anyway, it was a wonderful weekend of kicking ass and awesome weather. A formal announcement about the upcoming shop update is coming soon! I got madness up my sleeve, I tell you!

Have a sunny weekend

4074387088 1901fbf342 Have a sunny weekend
let’s eat, originally uploaded by kate / for me, for you.

This week has completely flown by too fast and I’m in serious panic mode with getting necklaces done and work being busy as well, hence my light posting. But I’m super excited that we’re supposed to have our first sunny Saturday in ages and ages tomorrow, and we’ve got a little home improvement project in the works. Sadly we’ve decided that making the awesome pipe shelving is just not feasible for us right now (doing project like this in NYC without a [free] car is painful, for one) so we’re settling for our own easier version because we desperately need some shelving!

Other than that, I’m banished to my sweatshop, making some lovely things I hope you’ll get to wear soon.

Thank you all SO much for your amazing comments about where to buy polka dot tights! I tried to find them in the city, but it seems they are too popular to do so, so I’m going to have to order them. I’m leaning towards the Free People pair. And yes! I saw the awesome Refinery29 post about tights – I think half of the universe sent me that link this week, you are all so kind.

Have a wonderful weekend, friends.

Remedy Quarterly

I don’t know HOW on earth I missed this when Kelly posted about it on her blog last month (google reader brain-dead eyes?), but all it took was a shiny pretty post on Design Sponge to get me wowing about Remedy Quarterly – a self-published food magazine that Kelly and other wonderful people are putting out. Look how amazing it looks! Hop on over to Kickstarter to pledge some funds to get this thing printed and reserve a copy for yourself + other goodies you can get depending on how much you pledge, like this awesome tote that Kelly’s husband Aaron designed (which of course I had to go for.) Oh Kelly, you just keep getting more awesome in my book all the time.

Soia & Kyo on sale

November 5th, 2009

4077604721 026297b0e8 Soia & Kyo on sale

One of my very favorite coat brands, Soia & Kyo, is now on Bluefly! I love their coats to death (posted about them ages ago) but they’re a wee bit out of my price range – considering how often I change my mind on what kind of winter coat I like to wear (I flip flop between warm down and cute wool) – so I was super excited that they’re so discounted on Bluefly. I snatched up the coat above last night (it’s hard to tell, but it’s houndstooth!) , and then to my sad discovery all of Bluefly is an extra 15% off today! But after quick call to the very friendly customer service department, they gave me the difference in price back. Yay! Hurry hurry because that 15% off sale is today only. But even without the sale it’s still a great price on these awesome coats. Unbearable grumpy-making cold weather will soon be upon many of us…

this coat was my first choice, but I’m too short for down coats that go below my knee so far:( I look like a glow worm.
