The Best Of Bits Of My Weekend

December 28th, 2009

Bits Of My Weekend has been going strong since February, and because I’m currently out of town and can’t share my weekend with you today, and this is the last Monday of 2009, I decided to pick my favorite photo from every weekend I’ve shared so far. Some are just personal favorites, some are favorites of yours. It’s nearly been a year and I still look forward to uploading photos every Sunday evening to flickr, even on those evenings where I’m not too excited about the photos from that weekend. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and I’ll see you next year! This has been one completely amazing year.

Happy Christmas & Friday

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, I’m signing off for the next week while I head home to Seattle!

Though I do have something scheduled for Monday in place of Bits Of My Weekend, so look out for that.

Bold Walls

December 24th, 2009

Ohhh dang, the urge to paint my studio a bright, cheery color just went nuts after seeing Yokoo’s bright turquoise walls. Is that even turquoise? I feel like a much more amazing word must exist for that color, because it is perfection. I think I just understood Pantone’s color of the year pick. I think the mix of vintage in the room is what stops it from being juvenile looking.

The Perfect Biscuit Recipe

December 24th, 2009

cream biscuits (for Hannah)

Lately I’ve been a bit of a biscuit connoisseur, and discovered that they’re so much easier to make from scratch than I assumed. I’ve tried a variety of different recipes, but today I discovered the champion recipe of them all: the cream biscuit recipe over at Smitten. Super easy to make, and you get the dip each biscuit in butter. I know, that was my favorite part. It was also fun to use my biscuit cutter for the first time since the tiny pies.

Little Dragon + Neon Indian

December 23rd, 2009

Thanks to those of you who recommended Little Dragon to me on my music post, I’ve been listening to their amazing song, “Feather” over and over, which I like better than anything else on the album. And yet another example of Swedes being awesome.

Also on the topic of music, Refinery29 has a great year-end music round-up with mp3s to download, which makes for a great mix. I’m happy they included Neon Indian, who someone at work turned me onto very recently, and I love listening to it while I’m home making jewelry or cleaning.

Make ‘Em Bigger

December 22nd, 2009

A ton of you wrote me asking how I made the photos on my blog larger. It’s not a simple answer as I designed my blog and can code the backend, and I know that this is something that not everyone is capable of doing. But it’s not impossible, and I tried to write down instructions, but then realized I am so bad at explaining things and there was probably someone on the internet out there who had already explained it. I was correct, instructions are here. Those are very simplified answers, so let me know if I can elaborate. But yes, the key is FLICKR! Don’t use the stupid uploader button on blogger.

It’s hard to talk about anything else that happened this weekend without just wanting to move on to talking about all the SNOW! So. Much. Snow. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve seen a foot or more of snow, being from Seattle and all, so snow storms get me rather excited. Saturday I spent all day in bed with Wendy trying to tackle that cold I had with more orange juice than is possibly even healthy, reading The Help (finished all 444 pages of it in 2 days it was so damn good) and watching the snow come tumbling down. Sunday we woke up to the blizzard’s bounty and my health mostly back in check, so I declared an adventure was in order. Because Long Island City isn’t exactly the most bustling neighborhood on the weekends, the snow plows didn’t get to some of the streets, which made for a trip to the drug store an actual adventure. The weekend was literally a rotation of reading, cuddling with Wendy, and eating. Because that’s what you do when you’re sick and there’s snow. You might also be happy to know that I spent a good chunk of time working on new jewelry ideas, which I’m pretty excited to share with you soon. Oh, and also, enjoying my copy of Remedy Quarterly, and my new Forestbound tote (perfect for a snowstorm adventure) that came just in the nick of time Friday before I left work.

ps. I finally had time to make things BIGGER around here! Enjoy the larger photos, and remember that they’re clickable to my flickr pages that have more info on them.

Happy Friday

Snowing Bokeh, originally uploaded by Visualogist.

The day has finally come! Vacation is official! Turning laziness into high gear. I have next week off, but I’m not going to really take a break from blogging until the week after when I go home to Seattle for a few days. Next week I kind of have it in my head that Monday will be the usual bits of my weekend, and the rest of the week will be little bits and photos here and there – a more personal week of blogging.

I finally came down with a fun head cold this season, so this weekend I can tell will be full of lots and lots of tissues and orange juice. It’s supposed to snow so I’m ok with the sickness hitting me now, it’s honestly good timing!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Dream boots

December 18th, 2009

I just noticed that it’s been weeks since I posted about shoes. (Well, shoes for adults at least.) Maybe you were thinking something was wrong with me. It’s not that shoes haven’t been on my mind, though. In fact, I thought I’d share with you this pair of boots I’ve put in my shopping cart and got 90% of the way through with checking out before chickening out because they don’t fit my $150 or less rule exactly four times now. But, they’re so swoon-worthy and all the reviews are fantastic. Oh boots, one day you will be mine.
