Be Italian

February 19th, 2010

Did anyone see Nine? I wouldn’t call it a terrible movie, but I definitely walked out with a frown on my face. Watching Kate Hudson dance around and attempt to sing made me cringe, but Fergie gave me chills (Normally I can’t stand her, but “Be Italian” was rather magnificent…maybe it was because she was the only person who could sing in the movie?) and Daniel Day-Lewis was downright – dare I say? – sexy. I couldn’t stop obsessing over his awesome pair of sunglasses he wore a lot in the movie. The sun hasn’t been showing itself around here much lately, but I’m coveting these similar sunglasses at Keep for the summer. Oh warmer weather, I need to stop thinking about you so much…

Daniel Day-Lewis is my new obsession. I can't get enough of him. Also, if you think Nine was bad, you should check out 8 1/2 – the movie it was based on, or Stardust Memories – a Woody Allen movie, also based on 8 1/2. Both are very, very good.

honestly, i liked nine. but i like musicals per se, so i am not an expert ;-) and i totally agree with you. as i watched it the first time, fergie just gave me chills too. she was so awesome. and be italian, sung by a strong singer like she is, is a great song. and i also liked marion cotilliard. i think she looked a lot like audrey hepburn here.

I have yet to see Nine, but I've heard bad reviews. I'll probably see it anyway. 'Cause Daniel Day-Lewis is pretty awesome.

I never saw it because several people I knew also walked out with frowns on their faces. I normally don't like Fergie and yet, it seems she is the only person people are raving about from the film!

daniel day-lewis is downright sexy in every damn thing he does!! he's the ONLY reason i stepped foot into a theater to see that movie and it was awful, awful, awful except for his undeniable hotness in those teeny tiny italian suits. good lord. just thinking about it makes me want to see it again. but on mute.

The original movie, 8 1/2 by Federico Fellini is a really incredible piece of work. It's this amazing self reflective/wonky movie and the women and clothes are stunning! xo

Agreed, agreed, and doubly agreed re Fergie {i.e. normally-can't-stand turned to chills!}.

P.S. I'm so happy you found those perfect peepers. Thanks.

    Cheers.

Sad to hear about Nine. It was definitely one of those movies I was SO excited about and never got around to checking out.

*Love the sunglasses, may have to sport them in Miami!*

Nine was good but not as good as I thought it was going to be. I agree with you on Fergie and "Be Italian." I really loved Marion Cotillard in it too because she downright bewitches me in every film she's in. XD

    I recommend 8 1/2 – it's belissimia!

So, not worth seeing? I've been meaning to see it for a while but just haven't gotten round to it yet. Maybe I should wait for the dvd to be released. How was Penelope Cruz?

you took the words right out of my mouth. Poor Kate. Who told her she could sing? And normally, I make fun of Fergie. In fact, i went in fully prepared to make jokes about her lovely lady lumps during her song, but it was actually the only number I liked!
And those glasses are fab of course.

I was underwhelmed as well…but the wardrobes were impressive as was fergie and marions performances. i think they both managed to rise above the whole sluggish disappointment and i wish the rest of the cast had shined they way they did. marion made me want to look all shiny and perfectly put together and i thought her last number was both emotional and stunning. and if nicole kidman gets one more thing done to her face she is going to kill her career!
