Apparently my left hand wanted to make a few appearances today:) These pictures are deceiving because it looks as though I got out of the house a lot, when in fact I only left ONE TIME, on a glorious walk around the neighborhood on Sunday when the weather hinted at spring (I can smell it coming, I swear!) The rest was spent slaving away in the studio, with a break for baking and making shadow puppets. I think I broke my own record of amount of time sitting at my desk at one time making necklaces. Phew, I’m beat!

Be Italian

Did anyone see Nine? I wouldn’t call it a terrible movie, but I definitely walked out with a frown on my face. Watching Kate Hudson dance around and attempt to sing made me cringe, but Fergie gave me chills (Normally I can’t stand her, but “Be Italian” was rather magnificent…maybe it was because she was the only person who could sing in the movie?) and Daniel Day-Lewis was downright – dare I say? – sexy. I couldn’t stop obsessing over his awesome pair of sunglasses he wore a lot in the movie. The sun hasn’t been showing itself around here much lately, but I’m coveting these similar sunglasses at Keep for the summer. Oh warmer weather, I need to stop thinking about you so much…

The next shop update will be Sunday, February 28th at 12PM (mid-day, noon) EST. (CHANGE OF DATE!) Tuesday, March 2nd at 9am EST. It will be similar to the last update (what’s currently sold out in there will be fairly similar), but with a couple new necklaces that are shorter in length – which I’ll show you with the preview next Sunday evening (the 28th). An email will go out to the newsletter subscribers to remind you, and there will be a post here.

I thought I’d posted about Swank Dollar before, but apparently not (stupid). So here you go, swoon away over this knit amazingness. My head is exploding with inspiration.

Check out her blog and flickr page. You can’t buy the items yet, fyi.

thanks fly for the reminder

Spring Slacks

I’ve never been able to pull them off well, but I think this Spring I’d like to wear lots of slacks rather than jeans all the time. I think maybe high-wasted and paired with leather shoes and a very girly shirt would help achieve the look. These two lovelies at Frances May from Apiece Apart and Steven Alan are so dang perfect.

I’m not sure which is more beautiful: this Bowerbirds song or it’s video.

Kind of feeling like doing a music post every Monday… (I know it’s Tuesday but it’s my Monday today.)

Such a great weekend. I spent a lot of time in Williamsburg, a lot of time on the bus, hanging out with the Internet’s finest ladies, making necklaces until I got a blister (no, seriously, I had to stop) while watching Marilyn Monroe movies, lots of way too much food, saw Avatar (wow wow WOW), bought some awesome socks (kind of a new obsession of mine, I think), took tons of pictures with my new lomo lc-a, and thought a lot about how grateful I am for my health, my luck, and a boyfriend who couldn’t possibly be any more wonderful. I really needed this long weekend, and I feel so recharged and ready to go.

ps. Bits Of My Weekend has been going strong for one year now! I really can’t believe I’ve been doing this every single weekend for a year. I’ve never stuck to anything so diligently, and it’s truly because of your amazingly sweet and supportive comments that I keep going, and I thank you.

RIP Yulanda

4349980735 a1cebda01e o RIP Yulanda

I am unbelievably sad to hear the news that the wonderful lady behind the blog Little Thoughts, Yulanda Yee, has passed away. I knew that she had been sick but had no idea it was this bad by now. Yulanda had an incredible sense of style, and impeccable photographic eye, and overall brought something undeniably classy to the blogosphere. When Yulanda won my necklace giveaway a few months ago, I was so happy that the stars decided it should go to someone who needed a pick me up. Yulanda, you will be greatly missed. I know that she had previously mentioned that if you felt like you wanted to help other people in her situation, to consider donating blood, so I just wanted to urge that here as well.

UPDATE: Pamela, who knew her outside of the internet as well, let me know that Yulanda had been staying at the Princess Margaret Hospital, and that you can make tribute donations on their website here. Thanks, Pam.

Fierce ladies

February 12th, 2010

I’ve been scouring youtube lately for good music videos, and these four from Peggy Lee and Patsy Cline – two of my musical hereos, are so damn amazing. How fierce are they? Also, Patsy Cline’s wikipedia page is fascinating if you have some time to read it.

Funny fact: when I was a kid, my grandpa had one of those amazing laser disc karaoke machines. My favorite song to sing was “Crazy”, followed closely by “Endless Love” which my cousin Brianna and I could do a pretty mean (aka: awful) duet on. We’d fight over who got to be Barbra Streisand.
