down the rabbit hole
I have to admit that I’m slightly indifferent about seeing the new Alice in Wonderland movie, as much as I love Tim Burton and visually stunning movies. I’m not sure what it is, I just haven’t jumped on the ecstatic bandwagon that so many people are on right now. Maybe because I couldn’t stand Sweeney Todd? (Update: Miss Crowland totally reminded me of why I’m skeptical: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) But I do love the story, and most of the very first film adaptation (a silent film of course) of the story from 1903 was restored after being severely damaged. How amazing is it? I have to say that watching it is making me a bit more excited to see the new movie.

I feel the same way. I think it's because Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was pretty unwatchable. You just can't improve on Gene Wilder.

Oh I love this!! Yes, I have to agree. I am not too thrilled about the new one. I didn't love Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but perhaps that's because I watched it in IMAX and it totally made me sick!

I have been obsessed with Alice in Wonderland and Lewis Carrol in general since I was very little, as my mother used to read it to me before I was able to read myself. Thank you so much for sharing this, because I've never seen it before. I love it! I've had reservations about this new Alice as well. I still want to see it, and I love Tim Burton. But I just fear the integrity of the original story may be jeopardized in the new film. We'll see I guess. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for sharing this!

I agree with Miss Crowland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory = huge train wreck. It was too….much. I hope that Alice in Wonderland won't be like that, but Im not rushing out to see it either.

This is SO awesome!
Better than any version I have ever seen.
I'm not too pumped for this new version either. AND is just me or do they make Johnny Depp look like a freaky Elijah Wood?

theauters.com has the original version of Alice in Wonderland available to watch online for free. It's a great site. I recommend signing up.

I'm skeptical as well. Charlie and Chocolate Factory was a disappointment. But mainly becasue the original was already so GOOD! It's hard to do a re-make, when the original is just fine as is. So if he botches my favorite fairy tale…Burton might loose a lot of points with me.

I was completely uninterested until I saw the trailer in 3D. Now I kinda want to see it (though I will wait for a weekday matinee several weeks after it's out) just for the 3D Cheshire Cat.

This film is an absolute gem! I have to say, I am going to see the new film (though I'm skipping the 3D version for now) and I am pretty excited about it. But this story has always been a favorite of mine and I'm really curious to see what Tim Burton did…good and bad.
