Thirty seconds into this bittersweet, gorgeous, string-filled Nina Nastasia song, and I knew it was my kind of jam. My only complaint is that it’s too damn short.
And while we’re on the topic of girls with awesome voices, can we talk about how awesome this St. Vincent video is? Oh so weird and hilarious. She is too much cute. (as is Fred Armisen, of course.)

Kate, that cry baby song is so sad! Ugh. But thank you for posting it!

I’m pretty excited for Nina Nastasia’s new album. Her song “Stormy Weather” is one of my all-time favorites.
Might I also recommend Black Prairie, a side-project of some of the Decemberists? It’s sort of old-timey, bluegrass music, with a lot of acoustic instrumentals. I saw them live at the Tractor Tavern on Saturday and was thoroughly impressed. Their album comes out tomorrow.

Hey… just a note. The other shopkeeper in the video with Fred Armisen is Carrie Brownstein. She used to lead the Portland girl band Sleater-Kinney. You guys should check out Sleater-Kinney if you don’t know them.
