I was going to schedule posts for the next few days that I have off of work, but between tasting that sweet, sweet vacation and this cold I cannot get rid of that is morphing into inner-ear problems (awesome!) I decided that I needed a blog break. Quality over quantity, I always say. But I’ll make up for it with a super-sized Bits Of My Weekend/Week on Monday (probably evening) that will be FILM again! I immediately popped another roll of film in that awesome camera the minute I saw how the last roll turned out. Thank you all for your super sweet comments on the photos, it motivates me to keep on shooting.

Uniform Wares

I’m a devoted watch person, and while I rock a classic looking leather number, I think it would be pretty awesome to have a marigold Uniform Wares watch to add to my rotation. So sleek and simple, but really fun. They also have neutral colors for the less adventurous, which it seems like many of you are lately who give me the thumbs down on colorful pants and fun sunglasses (party poopers.) I kid, I kid!

I don’t normally get that excited about tea towels, but man, these tea towels from milkaLOOM – made out of organic hand woven fabrics from Sri Lanka – are really amazing.

(letting this last one be vertical all by its lonesome due to the importance of the content.)

It’s here! The weekend, in film! This is my first-ever roll with the Canon A-1 that Billy’s uncle gave me. I officially love it to death. The camera has the strangest aperture/shutter speed settings where you can choose one or the other to be auto, or both. I was nervous things would come out shitty because of this confusing set up, but am so so happy with how they turned out. The only thing I regret is that most of these I didn’t put too much effort into the subject matter, after losing a roll of precious lomo film to loading the film wrong. I’m weary now. Next time, I’ll get my ass outside more and put more effort into it. This will not be the last Bits Of My Weekend in film, that’s for sure!

The weekend: a trip to Flushing for Lacey’s MFA thesis show (amazing), jogging in the wind for the first time in two weeks (painful, but I’m not sore at all, which is a good sign, right?), staying indoors to clean and make necklaces while the wind went NUTS outside and shook the building all day, Sunday brunch with my dad and step mom who are in town! Yay! A wonderful trip to the Highline, and then some serious laziness the rest of the day while I was a huge baby about the temperature dipping below 60 after an amazing week of shorts and sandals. But I’ll make up for said laziness because I have two glorious days of vacation later this week where I will play tourist with my parents. I can already taste that vacation, my friends.

Lena Horne

May 10th, 2010

I thought because Bits Of My Weekend is coming late, and even though I already had Music Monday planned, it was only right that I pay tribute to someone wonderful who passed away yesterday, the great Lena Horne. That woman was fierce. Stormy Weather will always be one of my very favorite songs ever.

Music Monday

May 10th, 2010

This weekend’s music was all about changing my mind. Two bands I felt pretty meh about up until now, and then listened to on constant repeat this weekend (Bitte Orca and Fear Of Music). I don’t know why, but they just weren’t for me until now. Late in the game a little? Yeah, I know. That’s my style sometimes with music, I suppose.

Also, something about these two bands seems very complimentary to me. Maybe it’s because David Byrne and Dave Longstreth have rather similar voices? Maybe it’s because they both were/are making pretty progressive sounding music for their time? The similar guitar sound? And yes yes, I know about this song and love it.

ps. how great is David’s dancing? God I love him.

Pssst! Bits Of My Weekend is going to be late. Either tonight or early tomorrow morning. That’s because I shot it all in film! Whoa! Usually it takes me months to finish a roll but I did it in a few days this time. Above is the only time I ever touched my digital camera – it was what was closest and the clouds were moving so fast Saturday I thought the shadows would disappear quickly.

Wendy freaking out over this amazing website. Turn your volume up, if you dare. She will come running from any stage of sleep, in any part of the apartment when this is on.

I wanted to share with you bits that were a little more than this, but I’m only now starting to feel better again from that damn cold that took hold of me, and I’m trying to both finishing this huge necklace project and prepare for my parents coming, so I’m a bit behind in personal things worth sharing. But I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, say hi to your moms on Sunday. I made my mom a mix tape (er, cd) and cookies because I’ve gifted jewelry and fancy makeup way too many times. It’s hard to think of thoughtful gifts that can’t involve you physically being there!

Cool to Clip

Just thought you should know about these glasses I’ve been daydreaming about lately while I squint in the sun. Oliver Peoples Riley with clip-on sunglasses. I’ve been seeing a lot of people who are cooler than me making clip-on sunglasses look awesome lately. I don’t even want to know how much these cost, but I might have to swing by their SoHo store soon to find out.

Industrial Touch

Sometimes I think about how I should add some more industrial touches to my apartment to keep it from looking too feminine and cutesy. With that in mind, this pair of vintage industrial lamps over at Trampoline are pretty dang fantastic. Kim is always finding the most amazing things.
