stripes & leather

My heart literally skipped a beat upon laying eyes on the new stripey market totes and gables satchels by rennes. Stripes and leather, be still my heart.

A lot of people have commented and emailed me similar questions about the Red Hot Shop necklaces and I thought I would address them here in case others had the same questions, and I thought people might not check back with the previous post for the answers.
The necklaces are actually $69.99. Sorry for misquoting that before – they are limited edition and will never be sold again.
I can’t thank you enough for your amazing comments and tweets and emails about this, sometimes I don’t know where I’d be in life without you guys and your support.
Wait – a post with no visuals? Perhaps instead we can just watch my recent theme song. I’ve been banned from singing it in my apartment anymore:
how about those pants?

It’s sweltering in NYC lately, and the thought of wearing anything other than breezy dresses makes me sweat just thinking about it. I wore pants on Saturday and immediately regretted my decision. I only own a few summer dresses, so I think about them a lot – the key term being “think about” as I am so on a shopping hiatus right now.

Somehow I’ve unintentionally started a collection of posters with grouped things (plants, animals, shapes) on them. Apparently I can’t get enough. If wall space was no issue, I’d grow that collection with more posters from Banquet. I love their latest – Twenty Northern Friends and the brand new Waterbirds poster.
ps. Banquet has a really lovely blog

I’m terrible at keeping secrets, and while I’ve told most of my close friends and family, it’s hard keeping such a project up my sleeve from you, dear readers! I’m very excited to finally reveal the project that consumed my life not too long ago – an exclusive necklace for Target.com’s Red Hot Shop! The Red Hot Shop is a boutique on Target.com done in partnership with Daily Candy. The necklace is a double strand – one overdyed strand of blues, greens, and greys, and one strand of grey. On Sunday, July 4th, there will be 100 necklaces available to purchase on Target.com (now available!). I know the timing isn’t ideal for those of you in the US with it being a holiday, but the quantity is much much larger than my usual shop updates and of only one type of necklace, so I don’t expect them to sell out as quickly as usual. Once they’re online I’ll post a link here, on twitter, and send out an email announcement to my subscribers. I’m sorry I can’t give you a specific time!
Thank you to my friends for putting up with my absence in life, Lauren Yakatan for helping me make a few of the necklaces during a moment of pure panic, Billy for never once complaining that I pretty much ignored him for a month and made necklaces during every singe movie we watched in April, and seasons 1, 2, and 3 of Friday Night Lights for keeping me sane through it all. What would I have done without my boyfriend #2, Tim Riggins?
Thank you everyone for your support and stay tuned Sunday! Update: Here’s the link!
UPDATE: Some questions answered!
I’m really into Twin Sister lately. Dreamy, spacey, and breathy vocals. Perfect for a summer evening.
I was happy to see one of their songs made it on the latest LSTN #10 mix.
Though the weekend was jam-packed, mostly it revolved around one event: a cookie decorating party. See, every year my family has a tradition at Christmas of all baking sugar cookies and then getting together and decorating them at someones house. I decided it would be fun to continue the tradition here in NYC, but instead of Christmas, it would just be Summer themed. I invited some blogger friends over, and we went to town on Sunday. I made more frosting than you could ever imagine, and we drank cucumber mint limeade and watermelon lemonade fizzes while making a giant mess (thank god for owning a vacuum!) It was a lot of work putting it all together, but it was so much fun (Jenny posted some way cuter photos here – can you guess who the cat in a bow tie belongs to?). I wish I could have invited more friends, but I don’t own enough chairs! Ha. Now I’m going to force my coworkers to eat most of my cookies before all my jogging lately is reversed…
ps. don’t forget about the gulf fundraiser today at 12PST!
Three happy-making things this Friday:
Vintage-style storage bowls from Fishs Eddy. I’ve had my eye on them for a while, and when I needed some bowls for something I’m doing Sunday (more on that Monday!) I justified the need for them, and I can use them for storage later. Pretty storage, that is. (They come with lids that aren’t in this photo.)
Homemade Arnold Palmers (half lemonade, half iced tea) made with agave nectar. I would live off of these, I swear. The agave instead of sugar is surprisingly amazing.
My very talented cousin Taylor, who recently became a back-up dancer for Adam Lambert. They’re touring the country (and soon the world) and I got to see him Tuesday night in NYC. It was definitely not my normal scene and music, but I was so entertained and impressed. That guy can SING! And I can totally appreciate a musician who can sing well, despite their genre not being my thing. He did a cover of Led Zeppelins “Whole Lotta Love” at the end (which was apparently a song he did on Idol) that was pretty amazing. Taylor brought me backstage afterward, and it felt very awesome to have someone pick me out of a crowd of eager fans to get past a bouncer. Taylor, I’m so proud of you.
Have a great weekend, guys! I have a very exciting announcement on Monday – I’m finally going to reveal that big necklace project I worked on for months!

Really blown away by this amazing poster series by Noa Emberson, The Visual Mixtape. The series commemorates his 25 favorite albums, using this gorgeous photo series.
