Sufjan Stevens All Delighted People Album Art Music Monday

Late last week, much to my excitement, Sufjan Stevens released an amazing surprise EP called All Delighted People. I know he’s not for everyone, and he is a bit of an odd ball, but for me, he’s magical. The first time I heard Illinois, I was driving in my car in Seattle and “Casimir Pulaski Day” came on KEXP and I had to PULL OVER I was so excited about how beautiful it was. His music just reaches in and grabs something in me. All Delighted People is not as epic as Illinois, but it has its epic moments, and I’m really loving it. While I’m not a huge fan of Joanna Newsom’s Ys, the story-telling structure of some of the songs on this album reminds me of it a bit. The title song (possibly my favorite) clocks in almost at 12 minutes, another just over 17.

You can stream the whole album for free, or download it for only $5.

    i looooooove his music.
John Wayne Gracy Jr is the best song on earth. so inspired so tragic and beautiful.
the extremely religious side of Sufjan Stevens bothers me a bit, but his music is exquisite.
    thanks for the tips !

Casimir Pulaski is a beautiful song (and my favorite) – it makes me tear up every time. I’m happy I’m not the only one who finds Sufjan ‘magical’ – great choice for music Monday!

I was listening to this on Friday night when I was battling with an enormous spider in my kitchen. Imagine a spider COMING BACK TO LIFE at the 11 minute mark of the title track. Horrifying. (But the EP itself is splendid.)
