FridayBits 21111 Friday Bits

Shorter bits for a crazy week. I don’t even have anything interesting to say! Bah. I have a fun post coming on Monday that I’m excited for, so just come back then when I have more brain function.

In the meantime, this week’s goods:

1. Jamie and Cecelia make me daydream about summer babies, a dangerous daydream. PS. they also just opened up an adorable vintage baby clothes shop. I like those girls, I do. (best photo ever by RummyBears)
2. An old sweatshirt as a new cardigan. Brilliant.
3. Princeton, 1969, a year of great change.
4. Erin McCarty emailed me about her beautiful, crazy work just in time for this post.
5. A beautiful new shirt coming soon from Ermie, developed from a photo of the sky Jennifer took in Colorado.
6. Pretty imagery from the Japanese shop, Cinq. Do you spot the cat cookies? via the lovely new to me blog, Cotton-Hearted.

Have a wonderful weekend. I’m looking forward to the Rose Bowl Flea Market and sleeping and sleeping and sleeping on our new mattress we decided is a valentine’s day gift to each other (mattresses are sexy, right?).

Music Monday

Toro Y Moi – “New Beat” (Official Video) from Urban Outfitters on Vimeo.

The new Toro Y  Moi album, Underneath The Pine, is streaming over on Urban’s website, along with the newest music video for the song “New Beat”. The album seems to be great upon first listen, and I’ll definitely be getting it to add to my windows down roster of songs to drive to.

In other news, we bought A Tribe Called Quest’s Anthology on Saturday and bumped that allllll weekend.

Kicked the weekend off with drinks and cheese with my coworkers – well, singular drink, a serious downside to this city. I don’t know how people go out here, I guess more people drink and drive than I allowed myself to believe, which makes me really sad and angry! Taking a cab home would have cost us almost $100. HA! Anyway, no drinks for me, no big deal. Saturday we started the morning off with an exciting trip to buy a mattress, then we spent the rest of the afternoon in Little Tokyo, which wasn’t quite as cool as I was hoping, but ended with a satisfying trip to Kinokuniya where I bought a cat pen, more gray pens (I have a problem, as you can see), notebooks and washi tape, so all was good. Sunday we went on an adventure looking for cheap used bikes and were totally unsuccessful, but came back home to find our neighbors in their front patio with TWO big screen TVs set up for the Super Bowl. So we grilled some burgers, drank some margaritas, and raised a glass to Wisconsin, birthplace of many Steinmans, including Will.

I will preemptively answer the question of what my nail polish is: Essie Playa Del Platinum.

Friday Bits

FridayBits 2411 Friday Bits

This week was busy and I’m happy for the weekend to be here. Last night we called the fire department to our building after smelling a terrible burning smell for hours, and they showed up, sirens blazing, firemen in full gear. It turned out that the source of the smell was a lit cigarette burning inside the container everyone puts their cigarette butts in on the front porch, and it smelled terrible because it was burning all the discarded filters, which they figured out after a long time of confused searching. The solution was a dose of water and a lot of grumpy head shaking. Talk about embarrassing. It reminded me of the time I called the gas company out to my apartment when I first moved to NYC, thinking there was a gas leak, when it was just that the pilot light in my stove was out because I’d never lived with a gas stove before. Phew, hello weekend.

1. Communal Table, a book about casual gatherings, looks good good good, but everything that Caroline and Lisa touch is good, so, duh.
2. Totem.
3. Orange Drinking In The Backyard. I love when Ryan shoots with his Polaroid.
4. Are you following P’s stories of her winter vacation adventure? Girl decided to up and head to Timbuck-effing-tu by herself for her break. I remember again why I love her so. I’ve never traveled anywhere alone, and don’t think I ever could. I can’t even go to the movies by myself.
5. Samantha Hahn’s Chanel print, which I posted about before and created a lot of inquiries, is for sale now!
6. I know everyone and their mother is posting about these, but the new Mociun necklaces are so, so lovely. I don’t own many delicate/dainty necklaces because I usually don’t often like them, but these are perfect, especially the gem necklaces.
7. Erica’s Dala horse mittens almost make me miss winter. Almost.
8. Kay Sekimachi is such an inspiration, and of course so is her studio space, photographed by Leslie Williamson. I so miss having a little studio area, one downside to this apartment.
9. And if I had a studio area, I’d fill it with these beautiful desk caddies Peg And Awl makes.

Have a great weekend, and happy new year!
