Weekly Music
I know I just posted a mix last week, but I feel like my mixes and my music of choice lately has been a bit too mellow, and after a stressful couple weeks, I was majorly in need of creating a sunshine-y happy dance mix. You know the saying “dance like no one is watching”? Well, my motto is “dance only when no one is watching.” I will not dance in front of anyone unless there is a large tropical drink with multiple straws and many shots in it that you light on fire at a drag queen bar (inside story for only Lauren to understand), but I dance in my apartment pretty much all the time. We tested this mix out this weekend, and I’ve been driving to work with it on, and it’s a winner. A serious mood lifting winner. It was hard to cut it down to 8 for 8tracks, but I’ve listed the rest of the songs in case you want to make your own. I don’t make downloadable mixes because I got a scary cease and desist email once and I don’t like confrontation as I am a true Libra. UPDATE: Ok, thank you Verdrana for letting me know you can upload more than 8 tracks onto 8tracks. I swear you couldn’t do that before! So, now the bonus tracks are on the mix as well to jam to!
Let’s get to the dancing, shall we?
Gamma Ray – Beck
Zap Zap – Cut Copy
When We’re Dancing – Twin Shadow
Feather – Little Dragon
Smiley Faces – Gnarls Barkley
Hercules Theme – Hercules And Love Affair
Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough – Michael Jackson
Ladies Of The World – Flight Of The Conchords
Beverly Kills – Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti
Strange Overtones – David Byrne and Brian Eno
Sound and Vision – David Bowie
Take It Easy On Kathy At Least She Can Dance – Andrew Graham & Swarming Branch
Ice Cream – New Young Pony Club
Keeping It Moving – A Tribe Called Quest
All Around and Away We Go – Twin Sister
Let’s Call It Off (Girl Talk Remix) – Peter Bjorn & John
Odessa – Caribou
Another Day – Jamie Lidell
You Take My Breath Away – The Knife feat. Jenny Wilson

can’t wait to listen. have you heard the song “Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men? I think you’d like it.

you have no idea how much I needed this. our forecast is rain for the next five days, and either I mildew or dance. Those are my choices. xo

Love these! Gamma Ray will always remind me of first moving to Los Angeles and navigating the streets at night. Strange Overtones is an all time favorite.

Oh this is super-upliftingly-jumpingly contrasting the gloomy weather here in Croatia :) :) Anything from Modern Guilt makes me instantly happy, Twin Shadow is just cool and Strange Overtones is the song of me falling in love :)
By the way, you can put more than eight tracks on your mix, the 8tracks limit is “at least 8 tracks”.
Oh, and, I made an 8tracks playlist a couple of weeks ago and found your photo fitting perfectly to the atmosphere: http://8tracks.com/vedrana/sunday-morning-before-coffee

You and me both! I hate hate hate dancing in front of other people. I had some major anxiety moments dreading high school dances. I clung to people I knew wouldn’t dance during “fast songs”. nothing, nothing is worse than dancing peer pressure. But I love dancing around in my apartment when no can see how terrible I am.

Oh my gatos. I just got back from a wonderful week in California and foolishly thought the weather in Portland would be all done with the rain and clouds by the time I got back. It was pouring rain while my friend drove us home from the airport. Haha. I NEED this mix! Listening to it while I edit photos from my vacation. Thanks so much. :)

Hahaha!I love that you included Flight Of The Conchords!
I was actually falling asleep in from of my computer at work because it’s so hot in here but this playlist is actually helping me not to. I look like one of those bobble head dolls swinging my head at the rhythm :)

Hi Kate! Thanks for another amazing mix! I always look forward to your postings. I was wondering, since I’m going on vacation to New York in just a week (I live in Gothenburg, Sweden), if there’s a cozy, not too pricey, yet takes your breath away, place that you reccommend I see? It could be a restaurant, a block, a shop, anything really. The more tips, the better! I trust your impeccable taste. Your blog entries about your weekends made NYC seem like such a magical place.
Have a wonderful day!

Thanks, Dustin, I was just listening to the mix and thought “this is not China Girl, what is going on??” I ripped it from an old CD ages ago so I must have labeled the names wrong back then.
