Kitchen Love
I love our new kitchen. It has such fantastic vintage details and color. I’m used to all the boring kitchens I had in NYC that I swear all come from the same company, and landlords just love to buy that cheap crap and slap ‘em up. I’m working on the dining nook – I finished the table I was building and purchased some vintage chairs off craigslist. I can’t wait to share it with you once I hang up a lamp and some curtains.
Our neighbor tells us that Clark Gable used to own this building back in the day, and he lived on the top floor and rented out the others to starlets. This news excited me to no end so I googled endlessly trying to find out more information. I can’t find a single piece of information on it, so I’m not taking it to be the truth now, but I would love to believe it’s true as he is one fascinating dude.

Ask a librarian to help you find info on whether or not Clark Gable owned your building. Ask more than one librarian.

Love that black and white tile, so pretty! It’ll make it easy for white balance. ;) Jealous of that great light too. And I love the way you rolled the napkins into a tub, so cute!

Awesome kitchens make a big difference! It’s like they inspire you to cook, or…attempt. Either!

Yummy! Are those rainier cherries I spot? My fave! I really hope that the Clark Gable story is true, sooo cool! Just think, years and years from now they will be telling stories of how the great Kate Miss used to live in that building! :)

that’s one of the greatest things about living in your new neighborhood, a lot of vintage charm.

I adore any vintage charm a home can offer. Always find myself lingering towards the older style, tiny cottages over the new cookie cutters that don’t pay any attention to detail. We live in a tiny 1950s house and it has the original black and white tile in the kitchen as well. It was one of the things that drew me to living without a dishwasher… not always easy. :) The original wood floors and ship lap ceilings are just little bits that make it feel more like home.
I can’t wait to see what your kitchen nook looks like!! Ohh Clark Gable – oh I hope it is true, how fun!

I’m pretty sure an acquaintance of mine lived in that building before his recent move back to Georgia. I also get this weird feeling that you may actually live in his old apartment. I remember he mentioned that his building was owned by Gable back in the day… I also remember thinking how exciting it must have been to have starlets on all floors. But, from what I understand there is still a lot of talent boarding there…yourself included!

What a charming space! Do I spy the wonderful cheap-in-the-best-way IKEA dishtowels? I’m addicted to them!

I love vintage kitchens like this. You’re right, they have so much more character. My old place had the most amazing tiled floor and 50′s stove. It was tiny, but made the place so cute. That scalloped edge on your cupboards is adorable too.

Your new kitchen is so beautiful! I can see how a space like that would inspire the cooking of some epic meals or the baking of some most excellent treats! Good luck with all of the post-move set up!

It really is beautiful. I particularly like that scalloped edge on your cupboard – I’ve never seen anything like that before, it’s lovely.Your mixer contrasts really nicely with the b&w too. Lovely!
