Kitchen Love

I love our new kitchen. It has such fantastic vintage details and color. I’m used to all the boring kitchens I had in NYC that I swear all come from the same company, and landlords just love to buy that cheap crap and slap ‘em up. I’m working on the dining nook – I finished the table I was building and purchased some vintage chairs off craigslist. I can’t wait to share it with you once I hang up a lamp and some curtains.

Our neighbor tells us that Clark Gable used to own this building back in the day, and he lived on the top floor and rented out the others to starlets. This news excited me to no end so I googled endlessly trying to find out more information. I can’t find a single piece of information on it, so I’m not taking it to be the truth now, but I would love to believe it’s true as he is one fascinating dude.

Weekly Music

August 3rd, 2011

I’ve recently discovered the key to my productivity while working: Robyn. I mean, she’s amazing, yes, but she’s not my usual cup of musical tea. Much more pop/dance than I’m usually into. But there’s something infectious and motivating about her music. It gets me up on the edge of my seat, ready to work. I don’t love all of her songs, a few push the limit of my pop music tolerance, but for the most part, that girl is a goddess. It makes me want to go dancing, and I do not do such things.

ps. Bon Appetempt’s “Call Your Girlfriend” homage is pretty amazing if you haven’t seen it. That’s the kind of stuff I spent my junior high days doing obsessively, therefore, major hat tip. (there’s a remake of Alanis Morissette’s “Ironic” somewhere in the Miss family vhs collection…)

Bits Of My Weekend

Moving weekend. My brain and body hurt like, whoa. The new place is amazing, we (including Wendy, who is so good at moving) are so excited about being here. And so, so tired. I cleaned the old apartment for SIX hours on Saturday. I will never have an all-white apartment again, especially near a beach (sand! every! where!). We are not messy people and only lived their for seven months! How do the Swedish make it look so effortless? Ha.

I’m nervous and pumped about my first week as a freelancer. Being in a new apartment that I’m constantly tempted to work on fixing up is hard! My coworkers gave me a lovely send-off on Friday and I worry about keeping up with human interaction throughout the week. I need to force myself to go work elsewhere on my laptop now and then and meet up with people for lunch. It’s a whole new world…
