a fundraiser

October 6th, 2011

Some prints from the shop

I’ll preface this for those of you visiting this post from links elsewhere or Etsy by telling you first what this is all about: my boyfriend Will was diagnosed with testicular cancer recently and he is thousands of dollars in debt due to the surgery he had to remove a tumor, tests, doctors visits and all that fun stuff that he was forced to put on his credit card (the hospital refused to bill him). Will is currently unemployed and unable to work because of his condition and is without health insurance until we can get help from the state which will hopefully pay for his chemo.

Will and I are both very overwhelmed by your support and willingness to help us out on my last post about this. So many of you have offered to donate money without any incentive, but we’re not into that idea just yet, so we’re selling some prints of our work as a fundraiser. I’ve opened back up my Etsy shop with some prints of my photos and Will’s collage pieces. If there is any work of ours (Will / Me)  that you don’t see in the shop and you’d like to purchase as a print, email me (katemiss at gmail.com) and I’ll see what I can do. I’ll be re-stocking the prints if they sell out as well.

And please don’t feel obligated or bad if you can’t help out. It pains me to ask for help right now when so many people are hurting financially right now, but so many of you asked if we could do this that it felt right. Spreading the word is much appreciated.

This all being said, you guys mean the world to us right now, from strangers to good friends. It feels like there’s an entire village behind us right now, rooting us on, which floors us. If any good can come of this situation it’s restoring my faith in community and compassion for others, despite what the world may look like when you watch the news.

A Wedding

October 5th, 2011

Remember how I shot that wedding and then all hell broke loose in my life? Well let’s change the subject for a moment to photos of that pretty wedding. I shot ten bajillion photos and had to narrow it down to roughly 200 and then SOMEHOW only share less than 30 with you here, the hardest thing ever. I also shot with a digital camera and three film cameras, so lots of shots had different looks, making narrowing down even tougher.

Anyway! This is the beautiful wedding of Lesley and Galen, held in upstate New York at Liberty View Farm. Despite the hurricane trying to ruin their fun with some bad ass flooding and mud, fun was had and sunshine shone. Lesley’s amazing dress was designed by Leanne Marshall of Project Runway fame from parts of Lesley’s mother’s wedding dress (!) and her shoes were Kate Spade, since those are Important Details inquiring minds will beg to know. Photographing a big wedding is crazy hard work and I commend those of you who do it full time.

Onward. Photo dump, I apologize.

Bits Of My Weekend

October 3rd, 2011

my best guys
new growth
stellar sunset

From the looks of these photos it probably seems like all I did was enjoy a pretty sunset and the satisfaction of cacti growing well, which is partially true because I’m so behind with work right now I have an indent from my computer chair on my back. BUT we did try to get out this weekend before getting out to do things is a rare occurrence around here. We saw Drive (Will loved it and I mostly loved it but have a hard time handling that much violence so if Ryan Dreamboat Gosling hadn’t been in it, I don’t know if I would have loved it), celebrated my birthday a little early with my uncle in Burbank, and had a disappointing trip to the Melrose Trading Post (forgot my camera, natch). But mostly, I was glued to my computer with the worst case of a creative block that I cannot shake. Probably due to the fact that I have not taken a full day off to relax in weeks, but what are you going to do? I’m so behind. Lately I’m grateful to be freelance so I can be home for Will, but it also comes with the downside of having to make up for all this time off for doctors appointments and such – there are no personal days in freelance, just schedule re-arranging. I just need someone to pay me a bajillion dollars to change the colors of their logo or something, is that too much to ask for?? :)

In other news, there is no new news, but our spirits are high and we’re plugging away slowly at getting prints made, so, soon!
