Friday Bits

Though our Seattle trip this week was a tad on the stressful side, I feel refreshed and re-energized to get things done and even managed to catch up a bit on the internet yesterday, so here’s a little Friday Bits! Thank you so much for the comments about the new shop and necklaces, it means so much. See you Sunday? It’s a big update so if you forget and think you’ve missed out, chances are you haven’t, so check back.
1. MCMC Love perfume + an Odette arrow ring for $99 = an awesome combination and deal.
2. This is kind of random, but recently I purchased a pair of Madewell widelegger jeans on sale in their Glendale store for $20 (originally $130!). They are so ridiculously comfortable and are the perfect wide leg/flare. I had them hemmed for $9, so all together a sweet deal. They’re also on sale on their website for a bit more (still a good deal) so I thought I’d pass this gem of knowledge on. Two things I love about them are that they are a bit snug in the thighs for a more flattering fit, and the denim is super soft and light, so they don’t feel really heavy to walk in.
3. The LA Food Swap sounds so genius. I’ve been intrigued since Natalie mentioned it before the holidays. You bring your homemade, homegrown, and foraged creations and swap them with other local people. Thinking about doing it with some friends though I have no idea what I should swap! I do make a mean hummus…
4. A lot of people asked me if I’d share where we went when we were in Seattle for recommendations, but I have to admit that whenever we go the goal is not to explore new things as it’s always a family trip, and this one was even more so because it was such a short trip. I didn’t even get to see any of my friends besides Andrea. But! I did go to Local 360 for the first time and it was fantastic. Delicious comfort food in a cozy rustic setting with big wooden booths, homemade cola and dim lighting – I was really impressed and would recommend it. The mac and cheese! Dang.
Have a great weekend!

Is there a spot in LA you recommend for alterations? I need to get a pair of wide leg jeans hemmed too.

I did the food swap once, and while it was pretty incredible, it was also maybe one of my most self-conscious moments ever (and I think I’m a darn good baker!). Be prepared for some of the most creative food, packaging, and swapping displays you’ve ever seen. If you know that going in, you’re already more prepared than I was.

I heard about this, that people go nuts with the packaging! Luckily I think I like packaging more than the foot itself, so I’m pretty excited about this aspect, but yes, also intimidated.

Food swaps are a great idea. It’s so cold in London at the moment, I am all about the comfort food and hibernation. Inspired by your post- I’ve made a batch of Black Plum and Cardamon Jam. Now I just need to find some people who fancy swapping!

I also snapped up the Widelegger jeans for $20 at my Madewell! The denim feels fantastic and I love the fit- really cannot understand how these have been so unpopular that they had to mark them down that drastically.

I know, it’s crazy! They still make the fit – just in a different denim now.

I love flare/wide-leg jeans but for me, they fall into the category of ‘looks good on other people’. I’m short and skinny, I sort of look ‘swamped’ by them. I guess it’s skinny jeans all the way for me :)
p.s. I meant to say, I love your new shop design and the new pieces!

I’m shaped the same way and I find the trick is to only buy ones that are tight in the thighs and wear taller shoes with them! Or if I wear flats, make sure to wear something tighter-fitting on top so I don’t look swallowed – I totally know what you mean by that.
And thank you!

i’d never heard of the la food swap before – is this a new thing? it is a genius idea, sad that i’ll no longer be able to participate. also, speaking of swaps, i’m trying to start a valentine’s day handmade gift exchange/swap and was wondering if you might be interested in joining or spreading the word? :)

It started a year ago but I only very recently heard about it. I don’t have time to participate in another swap, but thanks for thinking of me!

Thanks for the jeans tip!!! my local madewell didn’t have them, but I snagged them online (they were going fast!) and wow, totally awesome and flattering- I am also on the short/small side, but the high waist and tight fit on top make these awesome. and yeah, tall shoes all the way:) they actually make me feel about four inches taller.
