Weekly Goods: Vintage

On Sunday I went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market, and it was even more disappointing than the last time I went. I feel like the only person I know who truly hates going there. I never find anything, everything is ridiculously overpriced, and don’t even get me started on the crowds/parking/traffic hell you endure if you go after 9am. But it filled my head with vintage longing, which I haven’t had in a while, so here are some finds that have caught my eye recently. I think a trip to the Long Beach Flea is in order as I think I prefer it.
1. California Krush Jumpsuit (I could not pull this off, but feel that the right person could make this look amazing)
2. Triple Diamond Ring
3. Takashi of San Francisco Zodiac Ram Coin Bank
4. Sailboat Shelf
5. Denby Ode Cruet Set

that jumpsuit and that ram are something else, good finds!
on my very first trip to the long beach flea, i came home with a record table, three wire nesting tables, a lamp and some purse/clothing scores; this stands in stark contrast to the rose bowl flea where after an entire day (eight hours spent there, crazy, i know) i came home with just one painting i probably still overpaid for.
yeah, rose bowl sucks.

When I went to the Rose Bowl on Sunday, I actually began to understand why some people would pay extra to get in SUPER EARLY. the crowds/parking are insane. Last time I went I ended up way disappointed… but this time I found some great deals! So maybe it just depends on what kind of stuff you’re looking for.. ?
I also love that jumpsuit, but could never pull it off :)

The Rosebowl can be that way for me too, I usually come back fairly empty handed. Love your vintage picks.

Agree on Rose Bowl hell. I prefer the one the week before at PCC. Smaller crowds, and it’s free!

go to the PCC Flea! they don’t charge admission, parking is easy and i feel like the prices are fair. just make sure to get there at 8am with a cup of coffee and be ready to haggle :)

Flea markets can be so frustrating, I agree. They’re really hit and miss. Some weeks I want more than I can afford, other times I leave with my money still in my pocket.
Love that ring!

I’m ambivalent about the Rose Bowl market. I feel like some vendors treat your psychology like a retail outlet store does. You know, you had to make the trip all the way there, including the miserable parking and crowds, so you’re committed to coming away with something. Then they don’t have to give you an actual good deal.
That said, the guy with the Ohio River Valley pottery is so knowledgeable. And the married couple who sell lithographs couldn’t be sweeter. Really, some of my favorite pieces at my place are from Rose Bowl. So, like I said, conflicted.
One market that is more laid-back and not as far away as Long Beach is the Santa Monica Airport Market. It’s only antiques, and I guess some of them are expensive, but not all of them. Maybe it’s the beach, but people are nice there.

I definitely think that the Long Beach flea is more manageable. There are lots of little ones around…like the Santa Monica one you mentioned…so that’s a nice change up.

You are not alone! I haven’t been to the flea market in maybe 10 years because it always left me feeling exhausted and kicking the dirt. Everything is just too expensive for my liking. That jumpsuit on the other hand is a winner.
