Joy

April 24th, 2012

I recently did a shoot (all film!) with the lovely and charming Joy Wilson, aka Joy the Baker at her amazing bungalow in Venice. Here’s an outtake, one of the more serious shots that I love. I’ll share what it was for when the time comes. She was a dream to photograph and knew how to work the camera like a pro. I’d love to photograph more creative people in the future like this.

ps. Joy has a wonderful new book out!

Kate, this portrait is so good !
Love the tones, and it’s got a 50′s feel to it, with her thin waist and shirt and hairdo :)
    + I’m a sucker for Velvia…

I need to find someone in town who will process it without cross processing it because I’ve yet to enjoy Velvia in its natural state!

Not sure, Joy is a crazy busy lady these days on her book tour but I’ll see if she gets a chance to answer!

also, a confesion: i was in silverlake this weekend. but only for 36 hours, and it was such a whirlwind i thought best save the kate miss date for when i have a proper afternoon free. gah. i know, i know. next time, gadget, next time. xoxoxo

i’m always cautious about cross processing because it can look very lomo-ish, if you get my drift, but this portrait looks wonderful because it has more pastels and a faded look and less toy camera colors. hope you can share the rest soon.

thanks! I really didn’t want to cross process it, but my developer no longer will process E6 film regularly, so I had no choice unless I wanted to turn around and find someone else that day. Luckily I’m happy with the results and I only shot a few with this film.
