New music from two Pacific Northwest gems.

So crazy excited that a new Mirah album, Changing Light, is coming out in May! I liked the Thao & Mirah album, but nothing beats her own work and I can’t wait. I’m particularly excited by her working with composer Jherek Bischoff. The single “Oxen Hope” is excellent.

Damien Jurado quietly (at least to me) came out with a new album and upon discovery I thought, “well, I’m about to listen to this to death”. Mission accomplished. Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son is amazing and has a very similar quality to his fantastic previous album, Maraqopa (thanks to the amazing Richard Swift?). The deluxe edition includes some beautiful stripped down songs with a choir at the end that are very Neil Young-esque.

I made a New Years resolution last year to see more concerts and I’ve kept the momentum going. I recently saw Damien Jurado and it was a fantastic show. Based upon the current album, I had expected him to have a full band, but he was solo. He sounded great and his banter in-between songs really fun.
