I’m excited to announce the latest installment of Bakers Dozen, Sweet Dreams. Bakers Dozen is Amy Borrell‘s wonderful series where she has artists and designers to make a limited edition of 13 items. This time the items are jewelry (or jewellery, if you’re an Aussie like Amy), and I created a pretty little necklace made of French silk thread for the series. A weekend that flew, flew, flew by. Highlights include Otto Dix at Neue Galerie (wow, that place is amazing, as was the show), taking Billy to the magical Michaels on the UWS, a pizza picnic, a zine folding/salty dog drinking party (of two), a really great run after three (shameful) weeks off, and I Am Love (wow, wow, wow) with Lisa. Don’t let the smaller amount of photos fool you, I’m just cutting down weekend photos just a touch because sometimes enjoying the moment rather than thinking about what a good photo it would make is good for me. Same goes for twitter. Let moments just be.

First and foremost, just when I got extremely excited over the new Sufjan Stevens EP, he decides to pull a (good) fast one and announce ANOTHER new album, a full release this time, out October 12, which has absolutely nothing to do with the All Delighted People EP and will be a departure from his usual sound. Pitchfork shared one of the new songs, “I Walked” this morning and my mind is blown by how awesome it is. If you liked his Dark Was The Night track “You Are The Blood”, you’ll probably dig this song. It will be on repeat all day, I can tell you that. You can listen to it here, or I’m streaming it above (doesn’t show up in Google Reader, so click on over!)

Yet another reason to visit Sweden: the Kolarbyn eco-lodge on Please Sir. I always wanted to pretend I was living in David The Gnome, my favorite cartoon as a kid (which I had NO idea was a Spanish show re-dubbed in English til just now!)

And lastly, I thought I’d share what Wendy’s been up to lately: trying to get at some baby birds hanging out on our air conditioner outside. At first I thought they’d built a nest under the a/c, but now I think they were just from a nearby nest and were learning how to fly and also taking refuge from the crazy rain we had. I finally just pulled a chair up for Wendy because she was driving me crazy trying to climb taller than the pillow boost Billy put out for her. They’re gone now, but she still sits below, waiting to see if they come back for her entertainment. It’s funny that she couldn’t ever see them, just saw their shadows and hear them chirping. What a tease!

Hello friends. It’s been a while since I unloaded some shopping urges on you! Fall has a way of making so many of us catch the shopping bug though, no? Even though the new year is months away, the fall always feels like the start of a new year, a leftover school days feeling. As a kid, I remember thinking each new school year that I’d transform myself into someone cooler with a new wardrobe. It makes me cringe thinking about some of my first-day of school outfit choices! While my motives are different than back then, I still give my wardrobe a bit of a re-vamp each fall. This year I’m stocking up on more pleated pants than jeans, basic t’s with more interesting details in cotton and silk, and giving suspenders a try. (In a non-hipster manner, I promise you. Think Annie Hall.) I’m still a sucker for lace-up boots and capes, and I’m still on an epic quest for a new bag. The Alexander Wang bag is way the heck out of my price range, but the color and material is perfect. (Not to mention I’m not a fan of the spikes on the bottom you can’t really see in this photo.) Anything new you’re trying out/wanting this fall?

Late last week, much to my excitement, Sufjan Stevens released an amazing surprise EP called All Delighted People. I know he’s not for everyone, and he is a bit of an odd ball, but for me, he’s magical. The first time I heard Illinois, I was driving in my car in Seattle and “Casimir Pulaski Day” came on KEXP and I had to PULL OVER I was so excited about how beautiful it was. His music just reaches in and grabs something in me. All Delighted People is not as epic as Illinois, but it has its epic moments, and I’m really loving it. While I’m not a huge fan of Joanna Newsom’s Ys, the story-telling structure of some of the songs on this album reminds me of it a bit. The title song (possibly my favorite) clocks in almost at 12 minutes, another just over 17.

A humid, gray, and then monsoon-like weekend. A hectic half-a-day documenting Billy’s new work (hey, a sweet mention on Beautiful/Decay last week), finally getting some serious relaxing in, an overdue blog/shop logo redesign while it was monsooning, and then we closed the weekend with a crazy-for-a-Sunday birthday party for our friend Kai. A cake in the shape of his leg was involved.
