My computer crashed Monday night and it’s now in the hands of the Apple gods, and I wait and cross my fingers. I’m super far behind in my work now, so while I haven’t been doing my usual blogging lately and I’m practically on a break already, I’m going to be even quieter until I can catch up and (hopefully) get everything back in order computer-wise. I feel like I’ve been a bit bad about interacting with you guys lately, I was reading this article about how comments on blogs are going down and there were a lot of comments on the post from people saying how rude it was that bloggers don’t reply to their comments, so they stopped commenting. It worried me a bit thinking that some people might think I’m rude because I’m not the best about replying to comments and even emails lately. But just know that I love you guys and all your awesome comments (particularly on the last post, tear city) and they keep me going in life, even if I don’t have a chance to thank each and every one of you. I’m in need of a priorities check and personal interactions with others should be higher on my to-do list.

I never mentioned that Will and I celebrated our five-year anniversary in March. And I also didn’t mention that around the same time he had his three month CT scan and everything was shrinking and looking great and as hoped. Both were big things, but I’ve fluctuated between wanting to share my heart with you guys and wanting to be a stranger. Such is the strange, complicated life of a person putting their life online, a blogger.

fun fact: Will is wearing the same exact shirt in these photos, even though only two were taken on the same day. When he buys a new article of clothing (which is never), it basically becomes “the one”.

I recently purchased a cute little wide angle camera to take with us to Coachella because you couldn’t bring in cameras with interchangeable lenses. I took some photos there, but finished more than half of the roll over the course of the last month, carrying it in my bag wherever I went – snapping little things I saw on my walks around my neighborhood. I’m really impressed with this little camera, I can’t wait to take it on more adventures. So continuing my “I Love LA” theme, here are some of my favorites. LA (at least my area) has the best old cars, signs, and foliage.

I found out about Tame Impala recently while listening to KCRW – yes, on the radio. How old fashioned of me. I’m into their psychedelic feel and their Beatles-esque vocals. They describe themselves as “psychedelic hypno-groove melodic rock music”, which is awesome. They just completed a new album that I can’t wait to hear.

Last week during office day (in which Jessica works in my apartment, super helpful for productivity), Sara of Matchbox Kitchen stopped by and brought us a cake. Sara is an amazing baker, if you are not aware, and apparently the downside (??!) to being a baker is that you end up eating everything you bake. Ok, I get that, it probably starts to get ridiculous after a while. I told her that Jessica and I would gladly help her eat things as that’s what friends are for. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it. I told her she could force cake upon us if I could take photos of her pretty cake. Deal. She came over on a gloomy afternoon and when she pulled that perfect beauty out of the box, it lit up the room and there was definitely lots of ohhhhhs and ahhhhs.

I just keep making cakes to practice different recipes, techniques, and flavor combinations. It is a simple vanilla cake with a light lemon cream filling, covered in vanilla swiss meringue buttercream. The lemon cream is one of my favorite things because it’s similar to a lemon curd but mounted with more butter to give it a lighter, smoother flavor and texture.
